Corran Horn is a character from the Star Wars Legends series of tie-in novels, especially those written by Michael Stackpole. Originally a CorSec investigator on his native Corellia, Horn defects and joins the Rebellion. He eventually becomes a pilot for Rogue Squadron under the leadership of Wedge Antilles, with the call sign Rogue Nine. His lightsaber is silver, and previously belonged to his grandfather Nejaa Halcyon.
Corran's major appearances are in the Rogue Squadron series and I, Jedi, by Michael Stackpole. He also appears as a supporting character in other Legends novels, including New Jedi Order.
Fan Reactions
Corran is frequently accused of being a canon Gary Stu.
In the X-wing series, particularly the first couple books, I found Corran to be annoying. He was arrogant, yet mostly perfect, lucky as all hell, and then everything seemed to happen to him. But, I had to remind myself, the books are about him. By Bacta War he had really grown on me, especially since his ‘luck’ had been explained by this point as being the workings of the Force. But it is as a Jedi that I really came to like him. Like many, I’m not overly fond of stories written in first person, but I, Jedi was brilliant. It really showed how flawed he was, and how he overcame these flaws. So now, I really do like Corran, although the first X-wing novel makes me sigh in frustration when I read it, but I can persevere knowing how he’s going to grow and change for the better. [1]
Common Tropes and Fanon
- Mysteries - Corran is constantly investigating mysteries thanks to his CorSec detective training - sometimes with other members of Rogue Squadron and/or the New Jedi Order, sometimes solo.
- Corran's astromech Whistler occasionally makes appearances.
- First person POV - as with I, Jedi - is frequently used and/or parodied in fics. (often tagged as "Corran Horn POV")
- Corran is frequently a supporting character in Luke/Mara, Wedge/Iella, Wedge/Tycho, or other Rogue Squadron shipping fics.
- Corran's lack of telekinesis and mastery of illusions are frequent motifs.
- Antagonism with Kyp Durron
- green flight suit
Most common Corran pairings are Corran/Mirax (canon), Corran/Tycho, and Corran/Wedge. Corran is occasionally shipped with his Camaasi friend Elegos A'kla, but most fans see this as a Brotp. Bisexual Corran Horn is a common headcanon.
I have to confess that a solid 7%-15% of my Opinions regarding Legends canon is just me cackling over Corran’s desperate attempts to pretend that he’s heterosexual while also describing the beauty of every hot blond guy he meets in exquisite detail (and yes, I am including Elegos A’kla in that category). Dude, please just admit to yourself that you’re Chaotic Bi, there’s like a 110% chance that Mirax and Mara have made bets about this.[2]
