Would personally agree, but this seems to be a larger issue with with slash versus yaoi categories, and femslash versus yuri categories. We should decide on a large scale whether to keep them all separate categories, or axe yaoi/yuri categories and merge them with equivalent categories. The original idea behind separating slash vs. yaoi and femslash vs. yuri is that these are culture-specific terms and should only be applied to pages within that fandom subculture. Fanlore also has categories for Slash Fandom, Yaoi Fandom, etc. and these are subcategories under those categories. For example, Kirk/Spock would be slash, and Itachi x Sasuke would be yaoi. But I am now running into a problem where English-speaking slash fans are getting into Chinese television shows, and how do we categorize those ship pages? I've never heard them referred to as "yaoi", but using "slash" as the default also feels wrong.--aethel (talk) 21:54, 15 August 2022 (UTC)

I'll believe you that the cultural distinction was more important historically, but from my perspective (which is limited to a subset of English-speaking fandom corners on Tumblr & Discord from 2019 to present) that distinction has entirely eroded. The same people talk about (and make fanworks for) Holmes/Watson or Stucky and Bakudeku or Victuuri in the same places and in the same way. Maybe I only see "slash" culture and don't know where yaoi culture hangs out?? Also, you brought up C-media slash, but BL has been burgeoning in other countries too, such as Thailand's Kinneporsche blowing up on Tumblr this year. I've seen arguments that the East and Southeast television BL trends owe a lot to Japanese BL history, so perhaps that all should be categorized w/ yaoi....but i have reservations about putting media from other languages under a Japanese-language category name on a mostly English-language website. Like, if that's what the fans are actually using, absolutely, but I'd want to get some pretty solid evidence that lots of fans are indeed using the Japanese terms to self identify their culture. -- Quaelegit (talk) 02:18, 18 August 2022 (UTC)
