Once upon a time there was a wacky LJ chick called brooklinegirl. She loved Garret Maggart (Blair from The Sentinel), and who can blame her? Being a wacky chick she thought up the Garretverse, the most off the wall and obviously fake Real Person World since the National Enquirer published that story about Elvis and the alien ass babies. The world turned, the number of laptops filled with Sprite increased slightly, there was much tongue-in-cheek hilarity and Funyun-bashing.

I love how it's like the whole RPS is WRONG!!!/RPS is HOT!!! debates of the last couple of years have never happened, and this is all new. And how surprised she is, considering the fact that one episode of The Sentinel contains as much slash as the entire first season of Smallville.

Some Excerpts from the Comments
The Wayback Machine can be a glorious thing, but it, of course, has its holes. Sadly, the threaded comments of the original post are no longer available, so being able to read the many responses is gone. The second page is also not archived.
[velvetmace]:Personally, RPS squicks me, but I think the likely hood of it ever disappearing is pretty close to nil. As long as fangirls masterbate to posters of their favorite actors, they are going to write RPS.
I think people who achieve any kind of fame have to live the fact that somewhere on the internet someone is describing them having intimate acts with with random people and objects. I imagine it's aggravating for the famous person, but then so are the paparazzi and they aren't going anywhere either.
In the terms of my fandom: Equivilant Trade
[xero sky]:There is a place for satire and mockery, but that assumes that the 'targets' deserve it
Dear painfully earnest fan: I'm sorry, but no. Mockery is not a form of karmic retribution, handed down from on high by the impartial gods of snark.
It's more of a depraved hobby.
Or a side effect of other people noticing you exist.
*waves hello*
[darkerthanpale]: ... I still cannot actually believe that there is wank about the GarettVerse.
[anonymous]:*laff*
She's lost her smiley, how tragic.
And is anyone else creeped out by the the way she's going on about how well she knows Garret? After meeting him in a "private setting" that was more like a "meeting of friends".
Yeah... friends don't normally charge me $50 to spend the evening with them.
And who would you class as a scary stalker? The wacky chick writing fake-o fiction on their LJ, or the one who pays to meet with you in a "private setting" and writes repeatedly about defending your honor?
[drl]: RPS squicks me a little bit, but PatK's protectiveness and outrage squick me just a little bit more.
[tofuknight]: Like many have said, I don't particularly like RPS, but you know what? Because I don't like it, I don't read it.
[tehrin]:I love the comments on how the Garrettverse is "ruining his [the actor's] trust in fans" and the general psuedo-homophobia of it all. I'm unfamilliar with the fandom, but have no real opinions on RPS other than whatever floats your boat.
My favorite reaction belongs to _suziq_ though.
This issue has upset me so much that I'm ditching live journal for the moment to go and bury myself in something more positive...like building Garett's site and writing Jim/Blair. I feel a deep need to add positive to the fandom in reaction.
*sheds emo tear* It's just fandom, hun. Lj still loves you. No reason to break up.
[anonymous]:This is a fandom riddled with homoerotic fanart and photomanips that are squeed over and passed around like shiny coins. (As most fandoms are)
So...it's ok to paste the actors faces on porn-mag layouts and pregnant elves....
But using their names robs them of their choice and dignity??
[anonymous]: RPS used to squick me, but that was just because I hadn't read the right fic.
[kalika maxwell]:I don't care much about RPS. It's not about me, my opinion doesn't really count. Though, if it *was* about me? I'd probably flip out.
I mean, I bet they'd all write me OOC.
[anonymous]:Oh, come on. RPS is the new incest.
Friggin' hot. If written properly.
Especially if it involves Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalacki. ♥
[plazmah]: I'm rather ambivalent towards RPS. I keep thinking it must have something to do with being into Bollywood ;)
