Backstreet Boys is a musical vocal group that is one of the major Popslash fandoms. The group does not label itself as a boy band, but everyone else calls them that. Its members are AJ McLean, Brian Littrell, Howie Dorough, Nick Carter and Kevin Richardson.

In 2010-2012, they formed a temporary supergroup with boyband New Kids On The Block, NKOTBSB.

Fandom

Backstreet Boys fandom emerged in the late 1990s as a largely het fandom, with many fics featuring Mary Sue type original female characters.

The fandom later experienced a resurgence as a primarily slash fandom as part of what was then called popslash.

Sexually explicit stories were often called "visuals" and there was a website campaign called What Would Backstreet Think? that objected to such content in fic.

Pairings

Nick/Brian was one of the earliest, and most popular slash pairings. Other common slash pairings include Nick/Kevin, AJ/Kevin, Nick/Howie, Howie/AJ and Howie/Brian. See List of Popslash Pairing Names for some of the more popular pairing names. Crossover pairings with other boy bands like 'N Sync were also not uncommon.
