Bestiality refers to the presence of a sexual relationship between humans and animals.
Most bestiality stories actually involve a human physically transformed into an animal via some spell or mysticism, but who still retains their human thoughts and emotions and are thus fully capable of giving informed consent.[1]
Alternatively works can feature relationships between humans and werewolves, where both participants are able to discuss issues of consent before or after the sexual act. Other fics may be tagged non-con or dubcon as appropriate.
Due to the negative connotations associated with the term, some fandoms and authors have sought alternative terms to describe their works. For example, in the My Little Pony fandom, there has been debate about whether human/pony relationships should be tagged bestiality or xenophilia.[2]
