Ysalamiri (singular ysalamir) are fictional reptiles native to the planet Myrkr with the ability to block Jedi from sensing the Force in the Star Wars Legends tie-in novels. They were created by Timothy Zahn and first introduced in the 1991 novel Heir to the Empire

Strategic use of ysalamiri are a common trope in Legends fanworks. Grand Admiral Thrawn is often depicted with a pet ysalamir.

Ysalamiri appearance is highly variable in fanworks. They may resemble snakes, cats, or rodents, though lizards are the most common (both with and without fur). They are usually but not always depicted as bright orange, with multiple sets of eyes. In the Blue Milk Special parody fancomic of Heir to the Empire, the "ysalamiri" are seemingly ordinary housecats (that are later shown to block the Force).[1]

Although ysalamiri are not considered canon since 2014, the creatures are shown in the background of Star Wars Rebels and this version of Thrawn is frequently shown with ysalamiri as well. They also occasionally appear in otherwise canon-compliant sequel trilogy fanworks, especially kink fics for the Reylo or Kylux pairings.

Admiral Gilad Pellaeon confronts Grand Admiral Thrawn about his "ysalamiri" security measures in the Blue Milk Special parody version of Heir to the Empire.
