Grand Admiral Thrawn also known as Mitth'raw'nuruodo, is a character from the Star Wars Legends series of tie-in novels by Timothy Zahn.
Thrawn is introduced as the primary antagonist in Heir to the Empire,the first book of what is commonly referred to by fans as the Thrawn trilogy (TTT). He is one of the few Expanded Universe characters incorporated into the new Legends continuity following Disney's purchase of Lucasfilm in 2014, and has appeared in his own series of novels, comics, and the animated series Star Wars Rebels. The latter is considered canon which means Thrawn is now a canon character.
Fan Reactions
Thrawn is a popular fan favorite. Due to him voicing Thrawn in the Rebels animated TV series, fans were excited to have Lars Mikkelsen back to play him in the live-action Ahsoka series.

While fans are excited by the casting, there has been enough time between the ending of Rebels and the Ahsoka series that headcanons and fanon have had time to build;
one of the most shared headcanons was Thrawn and Ezra being stranded and having to put aside their differences to work together. It was my favorite
And the response by Alizrak to this ask was about trusting Lars Mikkelsen to play Thrawn well in the Ashoka series because he understands the character well; "When someone compared Thrawn to Moriarty, Lars disagreed saying he was like Sherlock".
