Xclusively Our Opinion was an X-Files rec site created in early 1999 by Cynthia and Luvmulder.

The website design is by Yvonne Harrison who previously had crated the X-Clusive site.

The site was created in reaction regarding two previous sites: X-clusive and IOHO. Some tense and fractious background information about these sites can be read in discussions in late 1998 at alt.tv.x-files.creative. Also see the story Complicated Shadows.

Not an Archive

This site did not archive stories. It simply linked to them: "The following are stories that we particularly enjoyed. Some are by favorite authors but since many authors now have their own web pages, we've decided to simply feature what we felt were highlight stories and provide a link to the author's own pages so that you could explore more of their work on your own. If you don't find what you're looking for here, you may want to try our "Favorite Authors" page. Please note: Clicking on the author will take you to that author's page. The story titles will—or should—take you directly to the story. Most of the stories are archived on site." [1]

From the Reccers: Regarding Opinions

You know what they say about opinions.

And they're right, especially when rating the value of an art form.

Writing fiction is an act of creation. Wordsmiths string together parts of speech into a unique version of characters cavorting in a world that didn't exist until the given writer envisioned it into being. God and writers tend to have something in common: we never seem to be able to please all of the people all of the time.

Please keep in mind that there are thousands of stories from which to choose in the XF fan fic universe. What appeals to a given reader varies greatly with age, interests, and personality. Many, many factors contribute to a given individual's perception of excellence.

This particular rec page showcases authors who please us most, if not all, of the time. Do they represent the "absolute best" in all of fanfic? Let's put it like this: we're very uncomfortable with any fanfic site that swears their featured stories are the 'best' ever written. Absolutes don't exist in a subjective arena like the arts; for that reason we feel any rec page that puts forth such sentiment to be biased.

We're biased, too, but we'll admit it up front. When exploring Xclusively Our Opinion you'll discover stories that 'worked' for one or both of us. Stories that spoke to our hearts, our minds and touched our souls with their message and craftsmanship. We are suckers for angst, dead on characterizations, interesting plots, and engaging dialog. We can't tolerate Superior Scully or Infantile Mulder; characters doing their jobs and acting like supportive partners, however, are a turn-on. Smart really is sexy.

When Xclusive left the web months ago, several of the authors you'll find here were no longer accessible to eager readers. We're honored to bring their work back to the fan fic community in addition to showcasing others we find enjoyable.

Cynthia and I both write, work full-time and care for families. We love to write, read fiction, non-fiction, and fan fiction. Unfortunately, we have very little time to devote to these pursuits. What am I trying to say? We readily admit there are many wonderful stories we've never read. A multitude of Moose and Squirrel adventures languish in our TO READ piles. As we find time to discover more work we adore, we'll contact authors for permission to add their stories to this site.

Updates will occur as time and life allow. If you find a story that touches your heart, please take time to contact the author. Feedback is a gift, a lovely way to say thank you for the hours invested in giving you a pleasurable read.
