1976

MidAmeriCon, the 34th Worldcon (often called Big Mac) was held September 2-6, 1976, in Kansas City, Missouri. Professional Guest of Honor was Robert A. Heinlein, Fan Guest of Honor was George Barr. Wilson Tucker was Toastmaster; the convention chair was Ken Keller.

Joni Stopa ran the highly lauded masquerade, the judges included Sally Rand, and Patia von Sternberg did a strip tease while they deliberated.

MidAmeriCon hosted the 1976 Hugos and the 1978 Worldcon Site Selection, which chose Iguanacon. It was also the site of the first ever Hugo Losers' Party, a then-unofficial event organised by George R. R. Martin and his good friend Gardner Dozois, held in Martin's hotel room.[1]
