Recs and Reviews

Every time my dislike of babies has been renewed someone writes something like this and melts me entirely. Babies, psh. But somehow, on his first day of work at Pendragon & Sons, Merlin finds a baby left on Father Christmas’ chair after closing, and of course he and Arthur have to raise it until a suitable home can be found for it.[2]

Merlin and Arthur are brought together when they have no choice but to care for an abandoned baby. AU, fluffy, domestic, with adult content and more complex issues.[3]

I can’t even begin to express how much ‘aaawws’ this fic managed to extract from me. Not only are Arthur, Merlin and David absolutely adorable by themselves, their interactions are both very realistic and absolutely too cute to be true. If you’re like me and have younger cousins/siblings whom you saw grow up throughout the year, then this will stirr memories and, for the most softhearted of you, it may cause small crisis of ‘I-want-a-baby-now’, but meh, it’s sweet enough to enjoy it."[4]

[From Epic Recs]: On Merlin’s first day at Pendragon and son, he attempts to stop a burglary, gets forced to be a Christmas elf for his troubles, and finds an abandoned baby. Arthur is mainly a prat about everything, until the baby comes into the picture.

This is the best thing ever written!!! Okay, sorry, I’m just so freaking thrilled about the ‘Bachelor Mother’ part of this. ‘Bachelor Mother’ is one of the best movies of all time, only to be excelled by the remake, ‘Bundle of Joy.’ ‘Bachelor Mother’ is a beautiful black and white with Ginger Rodgers and David Niven. And this story does such a good job of transitioning it to modern times.

I love how this story is about more than just the tale of a baby finding a home; it’s the story of Arthur finally doing what he wants to do with his life. If you’ve seen the movie, you won’t be disappointed by there being too many similarities. This story has the same basic bones as the original movie, but the plot is all original. From discussion of the current economy to Mika, this is a story about now with a capital N. And the ‘now’ lamardeuse writes is just so beautiful.[5]

A modern non-magic AU in which Arthur unwittingly acquires a baby, and then a Merlin. If only I had that kind of luck. Funny, sexy, sweet, and in character. A really enjoyable kidfic.[6]

oh.my.god. CUTEST. FIC. EVER. Drop everything and read this oh my god so adorable ;_; I have a thing for kid!fics and omg this one hit the spot perfectly. Merlin is perfect and Arthur is a pratty adorable mess and the baby is amazing and everything was just all kinds of flaily-cute.[7]

Another great fic by this amazing author! Lot's of fun, lots of self discovery, lots of denial and a baby thrown in for good measure - brilliant! Morgana and Gaius are stars :)[8]
