Wednesday Addams is a prominent female character from The Addams Family. As the daughter of Gomez and Morticia, she is typically depicted as a morbid child with a keen interest in the eerie and grotesque. She is typically identified by her extremely pale skin and braided black pigtails.
A popular and iconic character, Wednesday plays a prominent role in many Addams Family continuities. In 2022, Netflix released a show titled Wednesday featuring Jenna Ortega as the title character. In the Wednesday continuity, Wednesday is a teenager attending Nevermore Academy.
Canon
Wednesday Addams is the daughter of Gomez and Morticia Addams and sibling to Pugsley. She is a minor in all Addams Family continuities, but her age can vary from elementary school to her mid-teens, and she may be either older or younger than Pugsley. In some continuities she has other siblings, such as Pubert Addams (in Addams Family Values and the sequel Addams Family Reunion), or Pugsley Jr. Addams and Wednesday Jr. Addams (in Halloween with the New Addams Family).
Older Addams Family continuities, such as the New Yorker cartoons and 1960s TV series, usually portrayed Wednesday as a fairly young child, with Pugsley as her older brother. They also made her something of a foil to the rest of the family; despite a streak of fascination with the morbid and grotesque, Wednesday was overall cheerful and relatively normal compared to her parents and brother. Christina Ricci's portrayal of Wednesday in the 1990s Addams Family films made her much more deadpan and sardonic, and most later adaptations (as well as Wednesday's most common fanon characterization) have taken their cues from it. In these more recent adaptations, Wednesday is more likely to be in her early teens, and Pugsley is usually the younger sibling.
