@link: I think the problem is that you have to be logged in and if you don't have a GoogleID it won't work.--Doro 21:07, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- No, it's supposed to work without logging in! I swear to god I've looked at other people's google spreadsheets without being logged in. It doesn't work for you? --MegR 21:11, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- It does, but it didn't before I logged in. I thought that might be it, but I'm really not experienced enough with google spreadsheets to know. :/ --Doro 21:27, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- No, me neither. Damn it. I logged out before and got it to work, so I have no idea. (If you want to be able to edit btw, just let me have a email address! So far I've fanlored ... four whole sites. God.)--MegR 21:40, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
So I saw your plea for help and started something for Ride Forever (archive), based on what you did for a couple other GeoCities sites. Did I do it right? I also did a screencapture of the main page, but then discovered the warning at the top: "Lifting images from this site will be looked on as theft, unless prior permission is gained from the web dabbler."--æthel 00:26, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
- I am not MegR, nor do I play her on tv. But what the hell. *g* Honestly, at this point, I say screencap away - not the stories themselves (although gah, I hope someone is contactable there, so AO3 can archive this), but the look and feel of the site. And I don't see any problem with grabbing a banner image that they offer to use here. We're not taking images to use for competing sites, we're just archiving the existence of this site. And the "contact me" email addy is for a domain that's clearly long gone - I tried it and wound up at one of those generic search sites. So. Yeah. Screencap. (Also, yay! Thank you for helping! \o/) --Arduinna 01:10, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
- Awesome! Please help as much as you like ;}. Yeah, I have tried contacting the owner on two different addresses, with no luck, and I had a look at their mailing list too; they do know about Geocities shutting down and are talking about saving their work, and also have heard about the rescue, but since they can't get hold of the owner either, there's not much we can do.--MegR 11:32, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
Are you focusing on multi-author archives, or do you want personal ones, too? I'm digging through my old bookmarks, and have grabbed caps for: The Bend it Like Beckham Archive; The Ron Slash Archive, and the personal site of Catalina and Flamika, and Argyle's site. --Anenko 15:15, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
- Everything! I've already got Flamika, though I don't have an email address for her. And if you want the others added to the list to be contacted/fanlored etc I'll need the urls. Or you can add them yourself if you want to give me your email address!--MegR 16:54, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
- Awesome! I'm was planning on throwing the caps up on megaupload at some point for anyone to grab--there's no way I can do even half of these sites by myself! I'm also making a list of useful (maybe?) info as I go along. For example:
- Rabble Rouser's Rec Room: http://www.geocities.com/rabble_rouser_st/
- Rabble Rouser - rabblerser @ aol.com
- Fanfic for Star Trek: TOS, Voyager, Enterprise
- Recs
- Last revision: May 19, 2001
- Rabble Rouser's Rec Room: http://www.geocities.com/rabble_rouser_st/
- I'm having a heck of a difficult time for the very long pages, though. I don't know how to get proper caps of them. I'm at temporary_blue (at) yahoo (dot) ca, if you want the caps when I'm done. --Anenko 17:03, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
- If you're using Firefox, there're add-ons that can screencap the entire page. I've been using Screengrab. If you're not using Firefox, uh, no clue. Leave them if you want, and I can get them. I've added you as an editor on the spreadsheet so you can add all that info directly! \o/--MegR 17:17, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
Hey! I don't really see what you mean by this on my browser. Could you screencap it? --ChristyCorr 00:49, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, but it will have to be this weekend, as I don't have a computer at home atm! I don't mean that the words in the quote box run into the info box, just the box itself.
Paper Dolls! I'm glad you found an electronic one. I hope there are more out there. :-) --Mrs. Potato Head 22:00, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
- It's such a cool one too! I wanted to add it as soon as I saw you made the page. It's a hard term to search for, if you don't already know where to find them, though. --MegR 22:18, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
Dragon Ball Page
I think its currently a little too romance focused. Most of the male fans are more interested in the fights, as is the creator himself who avoided romance whenever he could. Don't you agree? DBFanLore 19:43, 12 September 2012 (UTC)
- Hi, oops, I don't actually know much about DB fandom! I didn't really add any new material except some comms and links and things, just moved things around to try and make it flow better - please change it back if I messed it up, or absolutely add more about the interest in fights! Maybe some links to a few typical or notable discussions, or some quotes? Or a longer description of the gender dynamic, if it's a significant part of the fandom. I don't know if male and female fans tend to hang out in different forums/lists/comms etc, for instance, but that would be interesting to add to the page if so. One thing that occured to me is that there seemed to be at least a bit of hentai fanart and doujinshi, which is usually a male fan thing, and that certainly counts as fanac as well. So that was the only reason I questioned whether discussions about who's stronger are the main/only fanac for male fans. And wiki-ing as well - there's a couple of DB related wikis, looks like, who's doing that? But I wouldn't actually remove the romance related stuff so much as add more other stuff, or even just acknowledge on the page that there's an imbalance. MegR 20:47, 12 September 2012 (UTC)
- No biggie, I'm not talking about deleting them but adding more on fights and such rather then the canon romances. Perhaps pointing the lack of focus the series has on romance and the lack of female characters in general.
- Basically romance in Dragon Ball is sidelined and avoided whenever possible. To clarify, Kid Goku briefly meets a girl in the beginning of DB and accidentally agrees to marry the girl as an adult with her father. Neither the girl or her father show up again for most of the series, until Goku is a teenager near the end and she marries him. In Z, she only makes sporadic appearances, typically worrying about her son or getting angry at Goku's lack of responsibility.
- The other notable example of this is Bulma(the only female main character) was with Yamcha(one of the long running protagonists) since about the start of Dragon Ball. In the middle of Z, Bulma ends up with Vegeta(popular Anti-Hero) with no clear reasoning or concrete explanation given for this at all. Though both would remain friends with Yamcha(whose feelings on this were not really explored).
- The female characters are often represented shallow or negatively; Bulma being shown in Dragon Ball as materialistic and deceitful and Chi-Chi few appearances typically relate to nagging. They're not really very popular in Japan.
- Much of the Japanese Doujins/Hentai Fanart just consist of both Major and Minor female characters with faceless or unfocused upon males with little plot.
- There are also many Japanese and American fan comics about fighting or Adventure. DBFanLore 21:18, 12 September 2012 (UTC)
- It definitely doesn't sound very romance focused - but that's shippers for you, I guess. They can not be stopped from shipping! It also occurs to me that maybe there are some DBZ examples you might want to add to some of the trope pages? Most of them don't have many examples from manga or anime fic. MegR 14:34, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
- It isn't, the creator says he's terrible at romance. Typically the couples existed to bring in new characters, especially as there were only two characters with basically genetic super powers. Do you mind if put basically what I said what I said above in the DragonBall article, I'm worried it might distract or even look NPOV?
- I'll check out the trope list and see what I can do. I'm surprised Fanlore doesn't have a page on Pair the Spare or Shipmates. Basically when a series or fans pair up all the romantic rivals together.

- Pair the Spare! That's a great name for the concept, I'll make that page when I get a chance. MegR 20:18, 15 September 2012 (UTC)
