True Blood is a television series based on Charlaine Harris's Southern Vampire Mysteries novels. It was adapted for HBO by Alan Ball, creator of Six Feet Under. A melodrama set in present-day Louisiana, True Blood contains a lot of elements that traditionally attract a fandom: a large cast (several already known to fans), epic love stories, supernatural beings such as vampires and shapeshifters, queer characters, and comedy. Also HBO invites fanactivity, for example on their own wiki they have fanfic, fan videos and fanart with various pairings.[1][2]
True Blood stars Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Ryan Kwanten, Rutina Wesley, Sam Trammel, Alexander Skarsgård and Nelson Ellis.

- Sookie(Susannah)Stackhouse–A telepathic bar waitress who lives and works in the small town Bon Temps, LA
- Bill (William)Compton–A 150-year-old vampire who relocates to Bon Temps
- Eric Northman–A 1000-year old + Viking vampire, owner of the vampire bar "Fangtasia" in Shreveport; the vampire sheriff of Area 5, which includes Bon Temps
- Jason Stackhouse–Brother to Sookie, who is not born supernaturally gifted but after being bitten, becomes a were-panther
- Sam Merlotte–A shapeshifter who owns "Merlotte's" the bar that Sookie works in.
- Tara Thorton–Sookie's best friend and sister figure. A human.
- Pamela Swynford De Beaufort–Eric's 100-year old vampire child, who manages "Fangtasia" for Eric
- Lafayette Reynolds–A friend and co-worker of Sookie's; he is a gay drug dealer and medium
- Jessica Hamby–Bill's vampire child, turned near the end of season 1
- Godric–Eric's maker. Turned somewhere around 50B.C. and is a sheriff in Texas
- Alcide Herveaux–A Werewolf in debt to Eric
- Niall Brigant–Prince of the Sky Fae, and Sookie's great–grandfather
- SophieAnne LeClerq–Vampire Queen of Louisianna
- Russel Edgington–3,000-year-old vampire king of Mississippi
- Steve Newlin–Leader of the Fellowship of the Sun, a vampire hate church
Fandom
Since the beginning, True Blood had a large fanbase—since many fans transferred from Southern Vampire Mysteries fandom while others started migrating from other fandoms that deal with Vampires, Fairies, Shapeshifters and Werewolves because of the similar interests and various actors and actresses working on True Blood.
True Blood fandom originally appeared on LiveJournal and DreamWidth communities along with FanFiction.net and YouTube. However, in 2008 fans started adding their fanworks to Archive of Our Own and the fandom eventually started appearing on Tumblr.
True Blood RPF appears in the fandom, although to a lesser extent than the overall fandom. Ryan Kwanten and Alexander Skarsgård are popular RPF characters.
