The Meat Feast is a Merlin/Arthur AU by intobedlam. The story was originally written for a kinkme_merlin prompt with the first part published in February 2011.[1] The finished story was posted to the AO3 but later taken offline. It became available again on LiveJournal in the second half of 2012.
Summary (on LJ): Merlin is a BNF fanartist for The Roman, a camp HBO gladiator show. He accidentally becomes involved with The Roman's lead actor, Arthur Pendragon, over Skype without realizing it. Many pornographic shenanigans and misunderstandings ensue.
Recs and Reviews
Very well known in the fandom, I think, but I hadn’t had the chance to read it before it got taken offline by the author earlier this year. Now that it’s back online, I jumped on the chance to read it.At first I thought it would mostly be an elaborate PWP (mostly because the title made me think of bad pornos. It is, in fact, the name of a porn site in the fic), but it ended up being quite plotty and sweet, definitely amusing and just really good all around.
I loved the use of, and references to, fandom in this (livejournal, kink-memes, ONTD, etc - Gwen was a delightful, and accurate, fangirl) I really liked the way Merlin and Arthur’s relationship developed, their banter, their pining. It was very often funny, and just generally really, really entertaining, and sexy. It did not feel like it was 60K long, at all.
Just, really recommended.[2]
I love fanboy!Merlin. In this story, I also love Merlin and Arthur’s chemistry - it’s particularly well-written.[3]
