Template talk:Unreferenced

I would like to question whether this warning template is something we need on Fanlore. We are not Wikipedia (where it looks like the wording of this template was directly copied from) and we generally take an inclusive approach to unsourced content, as it can be difficult to find citations for fannish recollections. We will always advocate for someone adding content over someone being able to cite every little detail. Besides which, we already have Template:NeedsCitation. I strongly believe this more "aggressive" version of that template is not necessary. --enchantedsleeper (talk) 20:03, 07 March 2019 (UTC)
- I've never used it. I agree that "Needs Citation" is sufficient. --MPH (talk) 20:13, 7 March 2019 (UTC)
- Even Needs Citation is almost never used because we're supposed to use Template:Citation needed. Needs Citation is also, imo, named in a very confusing manner because it's so close to "Citation needed". If we do need a banner like the one on the Needs Citation page to indicate when there are a lot of statements on the page that could use sources/quotes/whatever, then Template:Unreferenced or something similar would be a much better name, although I do think that the banner currently used on Template:Unreferenced is overly aggressive and I'd prefer something more like the current Needs Citation banner. - Hoopla (talk) 20:20, 7 March 2019 (UTC)
- Personally, I think this template could be deleted. Template:Citation needed is, in my opinion, more constructive for Fanlore - it allows editors to flag specific statements. Fanlore does not follow the same citatio policies as Wikipedia, and what works there may not necessarily be appropriate for Fanlore. If there are issues with a template or its usage, that should be brought up on the talk page of the existing template for discussion so that other editors can weigh in before a new template is created. Additionally, the color scheme of this template is actually difficult for me to read. Fanlore templates have not historically utilized color to this extent - at least to my knowledge - and I'm not sure if it's necessary. - Fandomgeographies (talk) 20:38, 7 March 2019 (UTC)
- Yeah deleting this sounds good to me, to be clear — there's a conversation on Template talk:NeedsCitation about deleting that template as well that predates this discussion. - Hoopla (talk) 21:50, 7 March 2019 (UTC)

- Agree, Template:NeedsCitation is way gentler and I don't like introducing all this red ALERT ALERT color into templates.--Assassin J (talk) 19:25, 8 March 2019 (UTC)
- have added the Proposed Deletion template. MeeDee (talk) 21:23, 8 March 2019 (UTC)
- Vermont, please do not engage in edit wars. A "Proposed Deletion" template is an invitation for the community to discuss the page on the Talk page (as we are doing here). It alerts other users so they can find the pages that are being discussed for deletion so they can chime in. Please familiarize yourself with Fanlore policies and community norms before reverting edits. MeeDee (talk) 21:30, 8 March 2019 (UTC)
