Template talk:Quotation2
It's a bit too dark, I think. Can we make it the same shade of gray as the thumbnail background for pics? --Doro 13:07, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
- I found the color info for the thumbnail background and copied it in. Is that better?--æþel 16:15, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I think that's better. I used it here: Death Dogs Tourist Guide to Magnificent 7 Fan Fiction. The quote is almost too long for having a gray background but it's still readable and I think it would look good on pages with many shorter quotes so that we can switch between templates. --Doro 16:34, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
I like it! I used it on the Claymore page since that has multiple short quotes. I'm not sure if there's a way to tweak it so that the template has less white space before and after? You can tweak it within the editing screen to remove them, of course, but when there's multiple short quotes, the editing field starts looking kind of scary and hard to read due to the lack of line breaks. - inkstone 18:36, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
I don't know anything about web design or web accessibility except for sometimes thinking "such and such webpage is really ugly/hard to read," but reading along about the AO3 skins/redesign last month, I have developed what may be ridiculous paranoia about grey backgrounds for blocks of text on webpages and their (bad terrible no good?) effect on readability and accessibility. So I like the idea (a lot) of having a template that visually offsets the quoted material more, but can someone please reassure web-design unsavvy me that the template's color range thingy is good with the contrast thingy (http://facetofcathy.dreamwidth.org/233427.html) and otherwise accessibility-okay and fl won't get raked over coals for not choosing the right colors? /o\ --Sk 19:44, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
- Ah, good question. Well, it says the minimum color brightness difference should be 125 and the minimum for color difference should be 500. The color brightness difference between the gray background and the black text is 238 (good), and the color difference is 714 (also good). If we're supposed to compare the white page background with the gray quote, then we're in trouble because the differences are not significant. And this same shade of color is used for image borders in galleries.--æþel 00:34, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
