Thanks for adding the category links. One fewer thing for newbies to learn. -- Msilverstar 04:26, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
- I was hoping that would be okay! The only thing I can't figure out how to do is the category sort, but that can still be handcoded in. Thank you!--Seperis 04:30, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
Adding the noinclude tag around the categories People and Fans removes them from all the people using the template. --Seperis 21:35, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
What is the other field for? I never could figure it out. --elgraves 19:13, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- I'm clueless about that "other" field too. I don't think I've ever seen that filled in for anyone. Also, is the "communities" just for comms they founded or for comms people were very visible members of? Or both?--Ratcreature 07:37, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
- I propose deleting the "other" field now, and considering what to do with the "community" field. It could be a fairly interesting way to gather across fandoms and media. Same with "type" which is only worth it if we are consistent with values. --msilverstar 23:06, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
- Although most fan profiles leave the "other" field blank, a few used it to include miscellaneous affiliations, such as awards they organized or their zine publisher names. Should I change the field name to "other affiliations" to make the meaning clear?
- Meanwhile, editors are generally filling "type" with fanartist, vidder, fan writer, etc. We can add a key on the template page to specify what type of information people should add for each field.
- Maybe rename "community" to "Moderator"? It's used for lj communities that the fan founded (or moderated?), but lots of fans might be mods of mailing lists or other discussion forums, so I think the field should be more inclusive.--æthel 22:46, 25 April 2010 (UTC)
- The main thing is to give people a set of reasonable values for each field, and a way to add to them when appropriate. If they're in the template, that's good for creation, but problematic for updating fan profiles. --msilverstar 04:54, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

This template is okay for any {fan} video artists as well right? I just want to make sure before I create any pages for some. --Harpie (talk) 01:07, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, any fan. :-) --Mrs. Potato Head (talk) 01:16, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
