Potential improvements for Featured Article??

I already voted yes so i don't think these are necessary but I wanted to bring them up:

  • Add an image to the lede? personally i'm a lot more likely to click on the Featured Article box on teh front page when there's an image to catch my eye. I've found some manips made for YAHF stories, i'll link them here for people to say whether they'd be useful in the fanlore article:
  • The example fanworks are currently listed by date, but there's a lot of them; would it make sense to split them up into "xander-centric" and "not xander-centric" subsections? -- Quaelegit (talk) 22:13, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
they're listed chronologically to show the change from them just being "halloween fics" to "yet another halloween fic" and to show the way later fics are more likely to be ensembles and hew less closely to canon as it moved away from the origins. if we wanted to split them up i would suggest splitting it up into decades instead because the xander-centric/not xander-centric divide is... a lot less useful imho? - flyingthesky (talk) 06:32, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
I agree, non Xander centric YAHFs were very rare and came much later. I think the chronological listing demonstrates this. We wouldn't want a situation where we had two equally long lists of fics, because that isn't a reflection of the usage of this trope. I think the one/two examples we have are sufficient. I don't have an opinion on splitting the list into decades - this feels like a mid 2000s trope to me, but obviously people kept writing after that!
The manip examples are great! We can add them to a fanart/manip section in Example fanworks, and if you want to upload a manip for use in the page, that'd be great too! --Auntags (talk) 22:03, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
Okay, sounds like good arguments for leaving the list as-is to me. Thanks for explaining!
Also, I'll link the manips; there's also another couple art galleries i found that *used* to contain fanart for YAHF fics, where the images themselves have sadly succumbed to link rot, but I think linking the collections to show the activity around these fics could still be useful, to give a sense for how active the scene was and what people were doing with the genre. -- Quaelegit (talk) 23:32, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
