Talk:Timeline of Stargate Atlantis Fandom

I went with the format cribbed from Timeline of Star Trek Fandom to allow the TOC to be used to navigate. I started with key canon events because they all can be sourced in one place--I really don't think we need to cite those airdates though, and they may need to be changed for when key things happened in eps that aired first in Canada.

I picked a format that puts the date fist in each point, to make it easier to read and to edit. We may need Month subheads as this fills up.

Any thoughts before other things get added? Ways this could work better or look better? (For right now the actual graphical timeline template is too much for me to learn to make one, but at some point, I'd like to try.)--facetofcathy 18:22, 7 April 2011 (UTC) (ETA) I was just looking at List of Stargate Atlantis Lists and Communities, which has all those dates in there of when the communities were founded. If that was transferred over to this page, it would really show the start on mailinglists, the growth on LJ, etc. Anybody got any brilliant ideas about how?--facetofcathy 18:33, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

Great start! Began playing with it a little, but fannish subcategory (vs. canon-related higher-level ones for the year?) may not be right, please undo/restructure anything that looks dorky or off. --Sk 08:23, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
I removed the fannish subcategory because the whole page is supposed to be about fandom; canon is only mentioned in as so far it's relevant to the fandom and integrating both shows how the fandom reacted to canon. --Doro 10:45, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
I'm finding the repetition of the year in the heading and in each entry a bit much. If it comes to the point that month subheaders are needed, we could even excise the month from each entry. And @SK, I think the separation of Canon and fandom events into categories can be done with the graphical timeline--if someone, or even me, figures out how to make one--they have colour coding options that could show that pretty easily. I'm going to see if I can copypasta that communities page into a spreadsheet and get it to sort by date. Sometime next week though.--facetofcathy 16:25, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
Just having everything bulleted out under the year heading is looking good to me (though if you figure out the color-coding thing at some point I'm sure that'll be even cooler!). On repeating the year in the individual entries, I'd vote for keeping just the month (and day of, if available) in the individual entries, and not repeating the year again in there. --Sk 22:37, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Just to update where I'm at with transferring info from the List of Stargate Atlantis Lists and Communities. I managed to copy the information into a sortable table which semi-automates things. ETA: I'm Done --facetofcathy 15:02, 21 April 2011 (UTC)I've done as far down as the section under the main Gen heading. A lot of the rest of it needs to get put in one at a time (sorting the whole table separates things from their headings and is confusing), but there are some bigger sections I can sort and do more quickly. Fascinating to see yahoo groups starting up as late as 2009 though.--facetofcathy 17:42, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
