About the content

This page is simply a list of links, has no sourced commentary, and the vague statement: "It was a commercial and critical failure at the time, but is viewed much more positively today." --MPH (talk) 19:29, 5 May 2019 (UTC)

I don't think "It was a commercial and critical failure at the time, but is viewed much more positively today." and other statements about box office and critical reception aren't actually generally relevant to the wiki. I'm sure lots of people in the fandom for various movies went to see it at the theater, but that doesn't actually have anything to do with "fandom" as we use it unless something unusual happened. (Eg, Rotten Tomatoes scores aren't usually relevant either but the way the score tanked for the last season might be relevant information to include when talking about the wank over the last season. - Hoopla (talk) 20:07, 5 May 2019 (UTC)

Lovely

This page is ever so much better! Thank you for all the work on it.

One thing that I suggest is making archived links as much as possible. --MPH (talk) 14:13, 25 April 2022 (UTC)

Two suggestions: I propose to shorten the canon section a bit and take out some spoiler info, how about ending it at: "as no one knows who to trust." [Edited]: Or remove the canon section all together as I think the intro has enough description. --MPH (talk) 14:28, 25 April 2022 (UTC)

The other suggestion is to replace the official logo with a fan-created image. --MPH (talk) 14:17, 25 April 2022 (UTC)

Thank you so much! I spent a lot of time researching this fandom and found a lot of cool infomation.
On the archived links: most of the links in the references are live. I wanted to archive them beforehand in case something does go down.
On the canon section: The issue with cutting it entirely is that the ambiguity of the film is an important part in fanworks and theories, especially the ending; nearly everything about the film has been theorized and debated by fans. The dog also appears in a lot of fanwork and is something of a symbol of the movie; not stating that "the dog is the Thing" might make some of the example fanwork confusing. Yes, it's a spoiler, but IMO it's a spoiler on the same level as the "Darth Vader is Luke's father" spoiler.
I totally understand that. I'm not very worried about the spoiler part of it at all, but Fanlore's focus is on fan interaction and fanworks. We try to not have too much info on canon; things such as plot info and things that can be found in other places. But if you feel it is needed to explain other things, that's okay, too. :-) --MPH (talk) 23:37, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
On the logo: I've seen official logos applied on some pages, such as Detroit: Become Human and Undertale. I didn't really get a straight answer when I asked about it. Pinky G Rocket (talk) 14:54, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
I apologize for the lack of a straight answer about the official logos. It's a topic we've been discussing for a while, and we haven't hammered down anything very formal yet. But the preference for Fanlore, as it is fandom related, is to lean heavily toward fanworks for images. It's an on-going discussion, and we hope to have more concrete info soon. --MPH (talk) 23:37, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
Additionally, I've noticed you added sections about tropes and pairings in fanworks. While tropes may be something to record, there really isn't much in the way of shipping. Most of the fandom is older, and the majority of fanworks focus on body horror, theories, and other general topics. Pinky G Rocket (talk) 15:13, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
I think adding the trope topics you mentioned to that section would be good. Perhaps there are other common tropes and themes in fanworks that people can add later?
As for pairings and relationships, even adding info that this is a fandom that doesn't really focus on those topics is interesting.
I love the work you've done to the page, Pinky G Rocket. :-)--MPH (talk) 23:37, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
Intruding a bit, I archived all the reference links on the Wayback Machine, tried to do another archive via archive.today, but the servers were unstable at the moment. I also made a point of changing the logo image for a fanart. I hope it's better now --Ellakbhesse (talk) 23:43, 25 April 2022 (UTC)

Citation things, logos vs fanworks

Hey Ellakbhesse‎! I noticed you've been making changes to this page, so I wanted to bring up some things with you.

First, I'd like to reiterate my confusion about using official logos, brought up earlier with MPH; I've noticed you've already gone ahead and swapped out the logo with a fan poster.

Second, I'm noticing you're using a web cite template for citations. This is awesome, but I'd like to request that we preserve author names when making citations if the work is attributable to an author or authors.

Lastly, I'm noticing you're citing example fanworks; I haven't seen that done in any other page on Fanlore. Is that something that Fanlore normally does? If we're sticking with it, I want those citations to be in a separate group, so that the information citations aren't mixed together. Pinky G Rocket (talk) 22:42, 25 April 2022 (UTC)

I confess that I didn't quite understand what you said. Sorry my english is bad and the translator today is not helping much. I apologize for any errors in my edits. I still don't understand why for a whole to Fanlore. --Ellakbhesse (talk) 23:14, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
The cite web template I used did not have an author name option, thanks for adding. I'll even update the model I've been using. I decided to change the image as soon as I saw the addition that would be better the use of a fanart. I remembered that Tumblr could be useful. Now as for the fanworks I don't understand what you mean. Is it about me adding archived links in the fanart section? --Ellakbhesse (talk) 23:19, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
Pinky G Rocket (talk) 01:42, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
Oh dear thank you for thinking about my reading. I thank. I'm using the translator as usual to write, so I apologize for any errors I added a reference to the archived version of these fanarts just for the sake of adding, for fear of losing the link, to try to help. If it's not the right thing to do on the site I think it would be better then remove from article. --Ellakbhesse (talk) 02:43, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
Pinky G Rocket (talk) 04:14, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
I prefer to continue writing with the help of the translator in English because I was told before that I shouldn't speak in Portuguese on Fanlore because here we must use a more universal language and that would be English. So even though I'm not fluent in that language I'd rather never hear again that I shouldn't speak my native language. As for archives I'm in a little struggle to archive everything I referenced, it's really sad to see that a link is dead and never archived. History needs to be preserved. Thank you for the love and real concern, I'm very delighted with that. And congratulations again for the effort in this article.. --Ellakbhesse (talk) 12:35, 26 April 2022 (UTC)

Intro

I propose moving the first two paragraphs of the section "Theories" to the introduction. --MPH (talk) 00:21, 27 April 2022 (UTC) I'm going to go ahead and do this, and if it turns out not to be a good idea, we can revert it. --MPH (talk) 00:26, 27 April 2022 (UTC)

I'm working on bulking up the article on all fronts, and I already bulked up the introduction to the article. I gotta bounce for food and homework, but let me know if you have any additional suggestions. Pinky G Rocket (talk) 00:28, 27 April 2022 (UTC) )
Wait, you beat me tweaking the intro! So, never mind. :-) --MPH (talk) 00:28, 27 April 2022 (UTC
