I'm guessing that "rainbow meat" is some kind of cannibalism reference given this originated in Hannibal fandom, but I think it would be helpful for the article to explain the origin/meaning of the term for those who, like me, are unfamilar with this fandom and its in-jokes. I can't find any references to why these folks started using the rainbow meat emojis. The first reference on this page just said that it was part of the Hannibal Twitter controversy last year. (With antis on the other side named meat knives as they were using knife+steak emojis) I don't think it has any connection to cannibalism, and appears to have been used more as a way to identify which "side" a fan was on. Similar to what is described on the urbandictionary definition. I'll add an expandarticle flag to the page and maybe someone who was there can expand on the origin of this term/ideology. --Auntags (talk) 14:12, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
I just put cannibalism since that was the main theme of the show, but tbh, I don't think there's anything too deep with the reason they use the meat emoji other than the show being heavily focused on Hannibal eating meat. You could probably argue that they use meat because in the show, the eating of meat is often a bad thing because the meat is usually human, so it could be a symbol for supporting something considered dark or "bad?" But I'll still be on the look out for if anyone has meta about the specific reasons they chose those emojis. Maybe there's more about that if I look into the creator of the emojis/starting incident. So I did end up finding and adding the original Tweet that started the usage of the emojis for the movement. Sadly the Tweet does not specify why she specifically decided on those two emojis. So I still feel like she may have just picked out the rainbow- a sign of inclusivity, like the rainbow flag- and then the meat just because Hannibal eats human meat all the time. Thanks for doing research to bring clarity on this! With my limited knowledge of Hannibal, I'd interpreted the rainbow + meat emoji combination as a reference to the Hannigram ship, or else as an anti-anti statement. Like, "shamelessly enjoying (rainbow) dark fiction (meat)." But if the source of the "rainbow meat" meme hasn't elaborated further on her choice of emojis, it probably wouldn't be helpful to try to read a deeper meaning into them. Since I ended up finding the originating Tweet and the reason for using those emojis was just that they wanted something "distinct," would we be able to remove the expand notice? Or we could possibly edit it, and move it to the "fandom" section? Patchlamb (talk) 20:52, 11 August 2021 (UTC)

I'm fine with that. Thanks so much for your stellar research Patchlamb --Auntags (talk) 21:59, 11 August 2021 (UTC)

Broken Image

RavenStag Outfitters, looks like you tried to embed an image, but in order for an image to show you would need to upload it to Fanlore directly. Otherwise, you could link it, use it as a quote, or use it as a ref link. I'm more partially to using a quote(s) for what you are trying to insert, as you could more easily add multiple quotes and could archive them onto wayback machine or archive.vn for long-term viewing. If you need any help with formatting or code, I have a few codes on my profile and there's the Editing Cheatsheet page as well. Patchlamb (talk) 00:39, 19 August 2021 (UTC)
