Talk:Mating

Following the naming conventions it should be Mates (trope). However, the article begins with "Mating can be found..." So Mating might be the better term. What about Mates, Mating and Possessive Claiming? --Doro 09:44, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
- To me, "mating" immediately brings up images of Pon Farr and vampires and the likes, while "mates" makes me think of drinking buddies. ;) --Extempore 11:34, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
- I definitely think that "mating" would be a better title than "mates," which has other meanings that make it unclear to the casual browser. - inkstone 13:14, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
- I like Mates, Mating and Possessive Claiming because it makes it clear there are different varieties of works with a mating theme included here. (AUs where people mate for life, Werewolf stories, kink meme fills that are all about the possessive, public sex.) Mating would be a lot simpler, though. We could immediately make Mating a redirect and it may end up being used as the most common wikilink to the page. Mates just makes me think of bad imitations of Australians.--facetofcathy 13:24, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
- I'm sure bad imitations of Australians is someone's kink! :)
ExamplesWanted vs. type of page
Not sure if this page needs the ExamplesWanted template? That is, more very general examples of the kinds of matingfic found in different fandoms sounds great, but specific fanwork examples seems like they might be better on the type-of-matingfic specific trope page (i.e., veelafic, Pon Farr, A/O/B, werewolves, etc., etc.) than on this one, as this feels like kind of a "superset of tropes" page (kind of like the Dominance Hierarchy one does). Thoughts? --Sk 19:44, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
- I've seen mating fic that doesn't fall under veelafic, or Pon Farr, or werewolves, etc. Vegeta and Bulma have sex. He bites her. Bam! They're mates. --Anenko 22:54, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
- Fair point/you're right. Sounds like it would be good to have some examples of those kinds of (heh) "Mating (other: non-Pon Farr, non-veela, non-werewolf, non-vampire, non-A/O/B, tentacles optional/welcome)" fanworks on the page. :) --Sk 00:11, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
