Talk:Lorne/Parrish
Link help please?
In the Fanworks category I'd like to add this link: http://www.area52hkh.net/results.php?series=&title=&summary=&character=Lorne&pairing[]=Lorne%2FParrish&season=Any&spoils=None&inrat[1]=NC-17&inrat[2]=R&inrat[3]=PG-13&inrat[4]=PG&inrat[5]=G&submit=Search!&sora=A&morf=M&sortorder=DateDesc&sortby=Stories and have it come out as
- Stories categorized as Lorne/Parrish at Area 52
but for some reason it won't come out as a nicely formatted one, showing (only)half of the not-pretty URL instead. What am I not doing right (and is there a workaround)? --Sk 20:17, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
- I know why it's doing it, it's the ][ characters in the link which Fanlore thinks indicate wiki code. The nowiki code doesn't work, so I think you need to convert those characters to the code for them--the way %20 is a space in a URL. I think the codes are %5D and %5B for ] and [. Or maybe someone knows an easier way to get a compatible URL. The AO3 uses those characters too on some search strings which is annoying--facetofcathy 21:12, 6 April 2011 (UTC)--
- Ha! I looked further down the page that showed me the codes and they had a converter! That page is at: http://www.blooberry.com/indexdot/html/topics/urlencoding.htm
- Except that link doesn't quite work, let's try this: Stories categorized as Lorne/Parrish
- Bingo, use that second version and it will work. The converter converted something it shouldn't have.--facetofcathy 21:20, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
- You're awesome, it worked! (Also saves link to blooberry page for future use) --Sk 21:28, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
Page structure/splitting off Parrish character page?
Enough of the page seems to be about Parrish more in general rather than strictly about the pairing with Lorne that I wonder if it might make sense to split off a page for Dr. Parrish the character? (Like Star Trek's Gary Mitchell has a stub page.) Thoughts? --Sk 20:33, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
- Absolutely. The template is Character Profile. You could copy and paste the Gary Mitchell one. You'll want to start by having Parrish' correct full name (don't include "Dr." in the article title.) If you need help, just ask here. --Mrs. Potato Head 20:46, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'll make a stub page! Except, um, although it seems logical that he has one, his official first name was never given in canon (see http://stargate.wikia.com/wiki/Parrish, http://www.stargate-sg1-solutions.com/wiki/Jonathon_Young, http://www.gateworld.net/wiki/Parrish, and http://www.gateworld.net/omnipedia/characters/p/parrish.shtml) So what would be better, making the page Dr. Parrish (what he's referred to as (by Lorne I think) in canon) or just Parrish? (With either way noted on the page that his common fanon-only first name is "David.") Thanks again! --Sk 21:04, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
- Good question. For sure, don't go with David Parrish. I made a page for a character that doesn't have a canon last name, and made her Kira (Starsky & Hutch) as there are other Kiras on Fanlore, both characters and fans. I imagine it's the same with Parrish. So, perhaps "Parrish (Stargate Atlantis)"? --Mrs. Potato Head 21:13, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
