I reorganized, moved some content from Larry Is Real, and added a lot of new information. See Talk:Larry_Is_Real for details. --Rougeandtonic (talk) 04:06, 17 September 2019 (UTC)

Origin Stories

I'm confused about what the "Origin Stories" section is accomplishing on this page, at least in its current form - is a list of "how people have become Larries" useful, or is it a Larry recruitment tool? --Greedy dancer (talk) 12:08, 11 November 2021 (UTC)

I think "Larrie Origin Stories" as a fan activity (they tell each other these stories) and as a way of illustrating larries' perspective on their own experience is valuable. I wouldn't put it under the definition section. I think the material currently in the section can be reframed and expanded with more quotes from larries and less about the method of recruitment (which might overlap with the Why Larries Believe section on the Larry Is Real page).--aethel (talk) 17:42, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

academic quote placement and POV issues

I took out this quote because it doesn't seem to fit anywhere. It was originally in the fan conflict section, but interrupts the flow, and I'm a bit suspicious about why that last sentence was included--it doesn't add anything about ~nuance within the larrie community and just looks like an attempt to use academic authority to bolster their argument that Larry is real:

Although Crazy About One Direction prefaces the section on Larry with the rejoinder that some fans have a “funny way” of expressing themselves, the girls interviewed actually presented a far more nuanced view of Larry than was subsequently suggested on social media sites. Discussions ranged from shipping the boys as a bromance versus a romance, demonstrating a complex understanding of different kinds of relationships, to Larry’s status as “part of the band,” there from the beginning and (arguably) encouraged by the band’s management. As Mark Simpson (2013) writes, “You could argue that the Larry shippers are only joining the dots that have already been drawn—very close together—by 1D’s management and the whole history of boy bands. As one girl put it, ‘I think the management secretly love Larry.’”

I am also not sure what to do with the section I renamed Fourth Wall, previously named In Wider Fandom. My impression is that this is Rougeandtonic's personal thesis, based on their reading of Jones, that the larries' novel approach to the Fourth Wall is the real reason everyone hates larries. But the original framing implied that this was true or widely understood, rather than being a novel meta argument I've never seen before. If there is meta by larries or non-larries elsewhere, it would be good to quote them. If not, then it should be offered as one larrie's interpretation of one academic paper. Here's page version by Rougeandtonic, After Greedy_dancer reorganized it.--aethel (talk) 01:10, 9 November 2023 (UTC)

I changed it back to In Wider Fandom and made some updates that I think make the academic quote fit better.--aethel (talk) 00:53, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
