Talk:Choose Your Own Adventure
Possible Rename?
Should we rename this page to just "Choose Your Own Adventure," so as to encompass both Give Yourself Goosebumps-style gamebooks and things like Bandersnatch or the proliferation of adventure-style videos on YouTube (like so)? It feels weird to have the page title be "Choose Your Own Adventure Fic" and the redirect be "Choose Your Own Adventure" when they're all in the same general genre. If we wanted a more generic term (since technically "Choose Your Own Adventure" is trademarked/an actual book series), we could go with hypertext fiction instead. flyingthesky (talk) 18:06, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
- I agree that the page title should be changed to remove the "fic" part. I lean toward "Hypertext Fiction" myself, but it might be better to go with the more colloquial. "Choose Your Own Adventure." —caes (talk) 18:52, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
- I vote for Choose Your Own Adventure, and have "Hypertext Fiction" redirect to it. --MPH (talk) 19:09, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
- We also have Interactive Fiction. - Hoopla (talk) 15:45, 26 February 2020 (UTC)
- interactive fiction is a slightly different thing and i don't think it would be a good idea to conflate the two since they have very distinct and separate histories, much like we don't conflate vids and amvs even though they're very similar things. it's only very recently that they've started to converge and while documenting that is important, i don't think saying they're the same is a good idea. - flyingthesky (talk) 17:25, 26 February 2020 (UTC)
