Talk:The Black Rose (fan)
I know the page only got made yesterday, but I see it was being used as a disambiguation page that pretty much got blanked the same day. Does the page author still want this page up or are they gonna use it for something else? Patchlamb (talk) 19:32, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
Edit: I see a similar page that was created then blanked here. Black Rose, do you want these pages for something specific or have you blanked them because you want them gone? Patchlamb (talk) 19:34, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- The contents of these pages were moved to The Black Rose. This user is the only editor on all three pages and I think they moved content because the page name on the first two pages was wrong. If that is the case, it'd be best to add a redirect to both blank pages, so they link to the third page. (Original editor is very welcome to add their own comments here about what they want done with the blank pages) --Auntags (talk) 16:10, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
- ETA: oops, first time I looked at this I missed the fact it was originally a disambiguation page. My bad. One of the three pages should probably become a disambiguation page. --Auntags (talk) 19:59, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
I did respond directly to patchlamb....
I started creating a disambiguation page because I saw a "Black Rose" and a "The Black Rose (Anne Rice archive)", and I figured there would be more, eventually. But, when I read the instructions on 'when to create a disambiguation page', this didn't seem to apply as these were all slightly different in that there was a "the" in front of my author name, and while "The Black Rose" the archive is the same as my author name, it has a parenthetical reference to the fact it was an archive - so it, again, didn't seem like it met the requirement for a disambiguation page. I'm happy for it to exist, I just am fairly new here and didn't want to overstep. The black rose (talk) 06:51, 11 August 2020 (UTC) Is there anything I can do to help? I saved what I had started as a disambiguation page, although I’m sure it’s in the version history, since you can see that it was created... I also struggled with linking my author name, a bit; there were a couple of references to something I was responsible for - on the existing GW page, but couldn’t link my user page? So, I created a fan page, but apparently “The black rose” (not generally how I capitalize) showed up differently than “the Black Rose” <— how I usually capitalize. Sorry for any confusion / difficulty...
- Thanks so much for explaining, and I'm sorry I wasn't aware you and Patchlamb have already discussed this. I remember how intimidating editing was when I first started! ( I'm still confused most days :D ) We often use parenthetical references for pages included on a disambiguation page, so that the links go to the correct page. To link to any Fanlore page, we use two square brackets. So the link to your fan page would look like this [[The Black Rose]]. And wiki coding can be really awkward sometime - it doesn't let us create pages that start with a lowercase letter. If you ever have an editing question, feel free to just leave a message on the talk page and someone will know the answer.
- and while "The Black Rose" the archive is the same as my author name, it has a parenthetical reference to the fact it was an archive
- That's disambiguation information and not part of the archive name. I turned The Black Rose into a disambiguation name and moved your page to The Black Rose (Fan). There is also a C/P story called The Black Rose (see Kye's Quarters) and a Forever Knight website (see List of Forever Knight Websites). --Doro (talk) 13:36, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
No worries. I expect there to end up being a bunch more, tbh. The anime Revolutionary Girl Utena had a character “black rose”, and ended up catching on in the states a little after GW. But back in the year 2000, I used parts of family names for an author name that wouldn’t be tied just to Gundam Wing - in case I wrote for other fandoms. Lo and behold, I did. But, you know....there’s like some untold numbers and versions of “black rose” something on FFN. I’m honestly the first, tho - with the name “the Black Rose”. Oh well.
