I'm not sure why the disambiguation links to the Star Trek: TOS zine Berengaria and The Berengaria Dragon were added. All three pages have a different name so no disambiguation between them is necessary. The new search engine is good enough to find these pages if someone is looking for them. --Doro 18:42, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
- Perhaps I'm the only one, but sometimes I type just part of a word in the search box. If you think they're unecessary, then go ahead and take them off. --Mrs. Potato Head 19:56, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
- Sometimes I search for part of a word too, but I don't think we should base our disambiguation on that, especially as we can't know the search terms someone else might use and the search results are very accurate. I made a disambiguation page, removed the disambiguation line and added a wikilink to Berengaria (disambiguation). --Doro 14:43, 26 December 2010 (UTC)
There's a popular character named Beren in The Silmarillion (I'm mentioning him in Luthien). Should I just create a Beren (Tolkien) page, or is anything else needed to prevent ambiguity? -- Maitimiel
- Yeah, Beren (Tolkien) would be perfect! I've added the attention gardener template to this page so that they (or an advanced editor) can move the contents of this page about the fan to Beren (fan). Then:
- This page (Beren) will turn into a redirect
- Edit the page, removing the redirect code and adding
{{Disambiguation}}
- Create a bulleted list of wikilinked page names (in this case Beren (fan) and Beren (Tolkien) preferably with a short description of what they're about
- Save the page
- (More info: Help:Disambiguation Pages)
- If you want to be extra thorough, the What Links Here? page for Beren will show all the links that should probably be changed to Beren (fan). I would change them to
[[Beren (fan)|]]
— the pipe makes the wiki hide the disambiguation phrase automatically, so it shows up like Beren without all the extra work of writing[[Beren (fan)|Beren]]
