Oy vey, maybe this should be a FandombyText-RPF page? I'm just not sure.

maybe redirect this page to Bandslash?

Msilverstar 15:41, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm going to redirect this page to bandom.--zvi 19:54, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Bandslash or Band fic?

I'm hesitant to edit the page, because I'm not sure I'm qualified, but relating to the current discussions on bandslash and bandom, the term bandfic (or band fic) is NOT in common use by the MCR/FOB/Panic et la group within bandom, instead bandslash is the term almost always used for fic that Bandom members write/read (and lately Bandom fic has been used). Bandfic as I have seen it used relates to fic of wider bandom/s, and is used interchangable with bandslash. I don't feel that this page should redirect to bandslash or bandom, as the meanings of each word are not exactly the same, or consistently used to refer to the same thing (repeating what I've said at both the bandom and bandslash discussions, sorry). --Stepps 20:40, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

I don't see why this redirect is a problem when you say in your discussion of why not to do it that it is used interchangeably with the term to which it has been redirected. --zvi 20:45, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

We need a broad category. And lots of smaller categories

I think we need "bandfic," "bandslash," and "bandom" to each have their own page, with references to each other.

Bandfic/Bandslash: fic/slashfic written about bands. Also used to refer to the fic and community about a specific group of contemporary American bands (Pete Wentz et al.).

Bandom: generally/popularly, the fandom--fic and community--surrounding the aforementioned group of contemporary American bands. Also used to refer to bandfic/bandslash in general.

I might actually argue for a third, separate page for the Bandom Terminology Debate.

Have you seen the discussions in Bandom under Terminolgoy Debate: http://fanlore.org/wiki/Talk:Bandom? Zvi proposed creating some disambiguation pages for the different meanings of bandslash and bandom. --wistfuljane 02:17, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
And I like the changes you've made (although I haven't really seen band fic used in Bandom (exclusive) much but *shrugs*). --wistfuljane 02:20, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
First off, I think the revamping is excellent! And I like the idea of making the terminology debate a separate page. --HectorRashbaum 02:22, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
I struck the stuff about bandfic referring to FBR, etc., as the people who are actually fans of FBR, etc. do not report that usage. I also struck the reference to popslash since I think that requires discussion. I almost struck the see also on it. I think if we're going to talk about popslash being not bandfic, then we need to talk more about bandfic being explicitly rock musicians (as opposed to, say, Mozart/Salieri or Ladysmith Black Mambazo GSF.)
Re: a separate page for the Bandom Terminology debate, I 100% agree. --zvi 03:27, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
I am too dumb to figure out the formatting here (why can't we just use normal html?), so I'm kind of winging it, but Zvi, good call on "See Also: popslash." I think they're related enough--and mistakenly equated enough--to have that kind of reference. P.S., what DO we call Mozart/Salieri? Besides Amadeus fic, I mean. -- Iggy
Yuletide? But, no, seriously, have you checked out the Talk:Bandom#Proposed Band-related Pages re-organization, mark 1? Because that would do away with bandfic again, so you should check it out.--zvi 04:05, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
Zvi: totally fine with me, as long as there's a redirect to bandslash (as you've proposed.) Ignaz 21:24, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
I like the changes, though I, like Jane have rarely seen bandfic used to describe FBR etc fic in Bandom. I think perhaps identifying that the term is more likely to be used for band fic in wider bandom could be useful. Re: separate page for the terminology debate. Yes, very good idea! --stepps 09:55, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

History of bandfic section

This section is very mysterious. Currently it's a non-chronological list of music groups with a lot of fic written about them, but no one in One Direction fandom uses the term bandfic, and the discussion here indicates that only rock bands need apply (although there appears to be some debate). Does anyone know more about this topic?--aethel (talk) 06:04, 9 February 2017 (UTC)
