OTW

From what I gathered, OTW's announcement (May 13) has a pretext: Betsy Rosenblatt's comment quoted in OTW Signal May 2023 (which would be removed) and then clarified in an update. I'm unsure if this change.org petition was a response to the whole thing, or started earlier. --Potpotkettle (talk) 06:41, 14 May 2023 (UTC)

From this Tweet I'm pretty sure the petition is a response to the whole thing. -- Aerlko (talk) 09:46, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
Thanks a lot. It looks like you are right. Also, given that the incident alone generated a lot of discussion, [1][2][3] perhaps it should have its own article here.... --Potpotkettle (talk) 11:52, 14 May 2023 (UTC) (It looks like now we have! AO3, AI and scraping Thanks User:Seanide!) Potpotkettle (talk) 09:30, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
Ah, it looks like the page was actually created before this one, even! I will say that I wonder how much we need to "separate off" the discussion around AO3's specific stance on AI because I do think it's intertwined with the larger issue of AI in fandom and a lot of people's responses to AO3's stance are informed by their general attitude towards AI scraping/generation in fandom. So I would normally have said that it would be good to have it as a section on this page so that the comments on it can sit in the same space as other, more generalised comments on the issue. I know there's a lot that could be added to the page (in terms of discussion), but it's also applicable to the wider topic of AI-generated content in fandom, so... just my two cents. --enchantedsleeper (talk) 22:18, 20 May 2023 (UTC)

AI generated examples

Would it be appropriate to add examples of stories and images generated by AI to this page to illustrate AI outputs? -Alpha (talk) 09:20, 15 May 2023 (UTC)

Impact of AI vs Using AI to produce fanworks

Right now it looks like there is a bit of topical overlap between the sections, 'Impact of AI models on fandom' and 'Using AI to produce fanworks', as both currently talk about AI-produced fanworks and the stances of different platforms (e.g. Squidgeworld vs AO3). Maybe the stances from platforms (and fanweeks, etc.) could be grouped under 'Impact', and 'Using AI' could focus purely on the methods and outputs used for AI-generated fanworks? --enchantedsleeper (talk) 22:12, 20 May 2023 (UTC)

Yes, I was thinking this morning info was a bit all over the place, thank you for tidying it up. Alpha (talk) 23:43, 20 May 2023 (UTC)
You're welcome, Alpha! I've done some more restructuring of the page to create platform-specific sections under 'Impact...', and grouped the examples as sub-sections under 'Using AI...', but I'm not sure I'm totally happy with the current structure 🤔 In a way, the whole page is about the impact of AI on fandom, so I wonder if we need a different header for that section. I also think something like "Fannish opinion" might be helpful, or just a "Fan comments" section... --enchantedsleeper (talk) 17:45, 21 May 2023 (UTC)

Question about categorization

Hi all, this page is currently categorised as a meta, when it appears to be a glossary page. Given this is a topical issue, I don't want to remove the categories without input. But I do think they should be removed and maybe we could add the Glossary and Discussion categories instead? --Auntags (talk) 16:11, 22 May 2023 (UTC)

I agree that we shouldn't have meta categories on a page where the main topic isn't a piece of meta, so I support removing those. I'm not sure if I would call this a Glossary page, since it's not actually defining the term "AI Generated Content", but rather analysing how it impacts fandom. I think the Discussion category is fitting, though. --enchantedsleeper (talk) 00:05, 8 June 2023 (UTC)
