Jump to search
This seems to be an ongoing and growing fandom issue, with the particular issue of fannish bookbindings being sold for profit using other author's work being concentrated almost entirely within the Harry Potter fandom as of February 2024 (with some, less frequent, occurrences in other fandoms like the Reylo fandom). Here is a link dump of everything I've saved so far:
- Why are there so many thefts in Dramione fandom, Reddit post from 2022
- is any other fandom struggling with this? Reddit thread with 140+ responses about the issue of Dramione authors having their work stolen
- Fan artist whose Dramione work was stolen
- Manacled Talk page with more links
- Draco/Hermione talk page with more links
- Section on Fannish Bookbinding talk page with more links
- if you're buying bound fanfiction, it's malicious, tumblr post by someone in the Harry Potter fandom
- please help report this seller thread on r/Dramione, with 84 responses about the sales of fanworks on Etsy
- Illegally printing fics wasnt enough, now theyre selling it on Amazon too thread on r/Fanfiction about Marauders fanwork being sold on Amazon
- Multiple search results in r/alltheyoungdudes by searching "buy"
- I was going to link them all, but there are so many posts in r/Dramione that it's easier to link the subreddit for now. If you search "deleting", "book-binding"/"bookbinding", "etsy", "kindle", "selling" and other related terms, you'll find a whole bunch
- twin_flame_blues TikTok video discussing their work Amor Vincit Omnia being sold]; mrsbluestocking TikTok discussing authors removing their works; thebrightcity TikTok discussing authors removing their works
- bogboogie thread on bookbinding for profit
- call to report bookbinding businesses
- follow up to above
I'll add other links as an when I find them. Cookies and chaos (talk) 09:21, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
Move request
I'd like this page moved to the name 2024 Harry Potter fanbinding controversy.
- "Theft and plagiarism for profit" is a broad term and may be confused for any number of controversies. Specifying that is about fanbinding is much more specific.
- In a similar vein, adding an absolute date helps the article be found by folks who are browsing or searching by year.
- Including the word "controversies" helps people searching by subject matter. Pinky G Rocket (talk) 21:46, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
