Talk:Draco/Hermione
Draco/Hermione works being taken/stolen and sold for profit (book-binding and ebooks)
I'm dropping a bunch of links here as I've noticed that works by Draco/Hermione authors seem to be being hit a lot by the rise in 2023/24 so far of their works being taken and sold, not just as ebooks, but in book bound format for profit on places like etsy. I don't know enough about the fandom around the pairing to do a decent write-up on this in relation to why Draco/Hermione works seem to be disproportionately involved, but in case anyone with more insight wants to dig into this:
- Authors seen discussing it so far:
- SenLinYu (specifically with Manacled)
- Emerald_Slytherin (specifically with Secrets and Masks)
- Onyx_and_Elm (doesn't say a specific work, but I'm guessing looking at their AO3 it's their two longfics: Breath Mints/Battle Scars and Don't Look Back)
- SereneMusafir (specifically with Green Light).
- More Links: Links on the Talk page for Fannish Bookbinding. A lot of the discussion is also happening on TikTok which is a nightmare to search but here are some videos:
- WinterSaints video
- heykenziex video
- pineapplesandpolarbears, this is someone who bought Manacled from someone on etsy, they seem unaware about the illegality of it
- geenahreads talking about how they were gifted their copy of Manacled and how the etsy sellers are stealing work and selling it illegally
- There are others if you search for "manacled etsy" or "manacled stolen" but not all the videos are relevant.
Additionally, the hits for the works involved at the time of writing this were: Manacled hits: 7,306,812; Secrets and Masks hits: 1,318,583; Breath Mints/ Battle Scars hits: 1,396,044; Don't Look Back hits: 1,752,386; Green Light: 193,858. So, while the juggernaut works are the ones coming up most often, even comparatively smaller (though nearly 200,000 hits is hardly small) Draco/Hermione works seems to be being caught up in this. Fan communities section?
Suggest moving events / fests out of the "websites" section, so that websites can be a collection of links but events like https://www.tumblr.com/dhr-advent/735521808868098048/hello-and-welcome-to-the-13th-year-of-dhr-advent?source=share draco hermione advent which i believe moved from livejournal to tumblr don't need to weirdly straddle categories. I also just think its hard to navigate how it is now... Distracteddaydreamer (talk) 07:41, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
