Talk:101 Ways To End Up In A Canadian Shack
Lists of Fans?
Does it make sense to include a listing of the 30 fans who contributed to the original challenge (many of them, I suspect, have Fanlore pages already), and then once the 10th anniversary challenge is closed, to edit this page to include a listing of whoever contributes to the new challenge, too? - Depends. Are we going to add all the titles and fandoms of the contributions to this challenge? If yes, then adding the author names makes sense. --Doro 00:13, 8 January 2012 (UTC)
- Hmm; the more I think about that, the more it seems that it might make the page really unwieldy. So maybe it's not a good way to go. Kass 16:31, 8 January 2012 (UTC)
- Kass, I built this page out a lot because it’s nominated for a Featured Article, but definitely you as someone who’s been around at both challenge times, please adjust or tweak the way I elaborated! I didn’t list the fans who participated for either (although one of the trickster.org links has Speranza’s page for the original challenge, which does have all authors/fandoms), but what I did do was add a section for a handful of authors (including you, heh) who have a one-two-three punch of Fanlore pages as Fans, contributions to the original challenge, and contributions to the anniversary challenge. I included internal links to the fandoms when I could, but for folks who wrote in more than 5 fandoms… well, I summarized heh. Of the original chat, the people I wasn’t sure about identifying were linbot and Terri - the others I could kinda extrapolate - so if you know they’re around Fanlore, throw in some internal links if you have them? Wank
I don't even know what to do with this, but there's wank about the use of "Canadian shack." Linkdump: http://www.journalfen.net/community/fandom_wank/1284691.html, http://fail-fandomanon.livejournal.com/26392.html?thread=116667928#t116667928. --Anenko 02:05, 12 January 2012 (UTC) ETA: Not that I think the discussion needs a huge section in the article, but here's a more comprehensive roundup of links: http://naraht.dreamwidth.org/478950.html. --Anenko 12:53, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
- Total tangent, but I find it very entertaining how clear it is that several of us wander around ffa and yet none of us breathed a word about here at the "if you recognized someone" thread. :D --Sk 02:37, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
- Heh. I know several people on my flist/circle visit ffa, and obviously there are some Fanlore editors who do. I wouldn't be able to recognize any of them when they go anon, though. --Anenko 11:45, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
- I hadn't seen the f_w material, though I did edit the page earlier today to indicate that while most fans responded to the shack anniversary party with glee, at least one fan took offense. I suppose if there's f_w stuff happening, we ought to add the links to the page -- though in that case I find myself wanting to link also to a few squee posts from people who were excited to see the challenge happen, because I don't want the page to give the overall impression that negative response was greater than positive response, you know? links
Extra thanks for all your work adding archival urls, Ellakbhesse! I changed a lot of the existing external links to the cite web template, but I clearly missed some (thanks for catching that!) and I definitely ran out of energy before adding archival-url to all the Dreamwidth links. - Joanna R thanks for your congratulations on my edits, I haven't added anything to Fanlore for a while due to health problems. It's great to be back helping to expand this amazing tool which is Fanlore -- Ellakbhesse (talk) 02:00, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
- Ellakbhesse, I hope you feel or continue to feel better, and I agree, I feel so fortunate to come here and find reminders of fandom culture I like now - or that I remember from the past! Joanna R (talk) 06:15, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
