Suicide Squad is a live-action 2016 superhero film in the DC Extended Universe about the DC Comics team of villains/antiheroes called the Suicide Squad. It was followed by a spin-off film featuring Harley Quinn and a standalone sequel called The Suicide Squad.

Canon

Amanda Waller, an American intelligence officer, convinces the government to form "Task Force X", made up of incarcerated supervillains, to combat threats from metahumans. One such threat is the return of supernatural deity Enchantress, who is possessing an archaeologist, Dr. June Moone.

Moone's partner, Colonel Rick Flag, is put in charge of the task force, along with his metahuman bodyguard Katana. The squad consists of Deadshot, an expert assassin; Harley Quinn, formerly a psychologist and now Gotham crime lord Joker's girlfriend; Captain Boomerang, an Australian criminal; El Diablo, a metahuman who can control fire; Slipknot, a mercenary; and Killer Croc, a reptilian metahuman. The criminal squad members have bombs implanted in their heads by Waller in order to control them, and when Slipknot tries to escape, Waller kills him to prove that she takes her threats seriously.

Enchantress, in possession of Dr. Moone, has taken over Midway City, turning the residents into monsters and attempting to summon her brother Incubus to destroy the human race. The squad is tasked with saving Amanda Waller and defeating Enchantress.
