The DC Extended Universe (short: DCEU) is the commonly used name for the media franchise centered on a shared universe of superhero films produced by Warner Bros. Pictures, and based on characters that appear in American comic books by DC Comics. This franchise has also been known informally as the DC Cinematic Universe (DCCU)—in the vein of the Disney conglomerate's earlier established Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)—and as the Snyderverse—after filmmaker Zack Snyder.
