Spock/Uhura isn't terribly common in the TOS fandom, although there are certainly fans of the pairing. Wildcat is one of the best known TOS-era Spock/Uhura writers, well-regarded for her epic S/U series.

Fans of the pairing point to suggestive moments between Spock and Uhura in TOS's canon. [1] [2] Nichelle Nichols herself described creating such moments to give both Uhura and Spock some backstory:

I created a relationship between Uhura and Spock as being her mentor and the person she looked up to. Uhura was the only one who could play the Vulcan lyre and the only one who had the audacity to sing a song teasing Spock.[3]
