Well, since my first Hawaii 5-0 vid was from Steve's POV, you know what had to come next. And you know who had to sing Danny's song.NO, NOT BON JOVI. THE OTHER GUY.
This vid was immense fun to make, and came together really well. The punchy, jazzy style of this Sinatra rendition of the song really fits Danny (especially the horn blasts, oddly enough *g*), the Steve/Danny relationship, and the action of the show. Thanks so much to sihayab, caersmane, tex, and chibirhm for assistance, beta and cheerleading.[1]
Critical Commons
The 2010 reboot of popular US TV show Hawaii Five-O has been an unqualified success for its parent network, CBS. One of the prime ingredients of that success has been the relationship between Steve McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin) and Danny "Danno" Williams (Scott Caan), which is acknowledged to be one of the most “bromantic” on American network television. It is also tacitly acknowledged that this relationship, like other such pairings on US television, will never cross the line in the sand into overt romance. However, slash fans are fond of projecting what would happen if such relationships were to cross that line, and vidders search for the perfect song to encapsulate the full breadth of what they mean to one another, both in the “canon” of the filmed episodes and the “fanon” of fan-created works. “Something's Gotta Give” seemed a perfect bridge between these two worlds: the canonical relationship of the characters ranges from genuine conflict over the nature of policing to pseudo-married bickering to genuine caring and concern, and the song shows just how easy it would be to interpret that relationship as a romantic one.[2]

Oh, yes, this! I always thought any one of the songs from the Rat Pack would fit Danny perfectly, and this video is proof of that. Everything flows together beautifully and the whole thing has that fun, swinging vibe of a Sinatra song. Well done. I love this vid. :D[3]

This is brilliant! And very well edited as well.I know you haven't had time for the recaps of Monday's episode, but did you catch the head to toe survey by Danno when Steve got ready to jump into the water with Kono? Seriously, he never even LOOKED at Kono, only Steve.

I have been waiting in anticip...ation all the work-long day to download this and now I have and OMG it is just perfect. The lyrics, the swing, the palpable lovefest that is two and a half minutes of Danny and Steve on screen together. The clips are all perfectly times and the song is so Danny and I just have to come to a halt here before all that comes out is a high-pitched squee.[11]
I just got back from a business trip, and this was my first chance to actually watch the vid. ::hearts it to bits and pieces:: Thank you for this gem! What a perfect Danny POV -- your editing and choice of clips was utterly spot on. You nailed all the looks between Steven and Danny (in their multiple variations -- you're adorable, you're a geek, you're an idiot, that's a sexy ass you've got there, you're... pretty cool actually. And so on and so on...) Boys, just send out the wedding invitations. Seriously. [12]

Also, seeing all those clips in one place is SO happy making because a) they both have such beautiful smiles, and b) I am now completely convinced that Alex O is playing McGarrett like he's in love with Danny, kinda like JFlan did with Sheppard being in love with Rodney. <3[13]

aw, Steve just totally adores Danno man. Those looks are killer, and the music is just perfect. What ep is that clip with the squid from? Somehow I missed this previously -- I guess because I didn't yet know the fandom when you posted it? -- and sheafrotherdon just reminded me that this is here, and omg, this is perfection. This is every little glance, every look, every touch -- this is the perfect slash vid for this pairing. I just. Damn. And I love the way the physical stuff becomes like dancing when it's set to this soundtrack: the fighting, the reckless driving, all feels like reckless romance. ♥![17]
