From Paula Smith:

If you're going to steal, steal from the best. Astute listeners will detect routines lifted from Stan Freeberg, Monty Python, and The Flying Karamazov Brothers in this one. The role of Ken/Sven was my favorite to do. I love silly accents and crosstalk. However, the best accent in the play belonged to Terri Beckett: "Where the hell have you been?" Well, you hadda hear it. This was also the first time the author of the original book was in the audience. It's a good thing Marian laughs easily. [1]

Fan Comments

SCALES OF JUST-AS-GOOD: With my ears, having the words written down is a godsend. I can now recall the play as I saw it, reading the dialog I couldn't hear. And TACS' cartoons are also a reminder (along with my album pictures) of just how much fun it was, not the least of which was the expressions on Marian's face throughout the parody.[2]

Thanks to Karen and Jean for ZebraCon -- I "needed it bad" and it did not disappoint. Worth the price of the plane fare just to browse around the art room (slaver slaver drool, sigh) and chortle and guffaw through Ms. Smith & Co.'s send up of "Scales of Justice." [3]

After we caught our breath, the inimitable duo of Paula Smith and Jody Nye took over with their play, "Scales of Just-As-Good, " which gave us a sword-wielding Hutch (Paula) and a Starsky with an accent that came from somewhere farther east than New York (Terri Beckett). Carole Swoboda was a scene-stealing villain and Jody Nye a sinuous (or was that sea-sick sea serpent?) Martha Bonds, Pat Massie, and [Billie Philips] gave excellent back-up as the Greek... er, Swedish-Norwegian chorus. Aside-splitting time was had by all. [4]
