SKipper: A Short History of Scully/Krycek fiction thus far is by Megan Reilly. It was posted to a Fortune City website.

It is a history of Scully/Krycek fanfiction.

The author comments that "most research for this history was done through searches at Deja.com [formerly Deja-News ] which archives usenet postings. Additional research comes from the stories themselves, many of which were acquired at gossamer and may not have been archived at the same time they were completed."

SKipper: A Short History of Scully/Krycek fiction thus far by Megan Reilly. Date: April 30, 1999

The Beginning

In October of 1994, in the episode "Sleepless," Alex Krycek met Dana Scully for the first time.

FIRST STORY:

Two full years later, in October of 1996, the first Scully/Krycek romance fanfic began posting. This story was "Lost" and it was written by Jessica Zyvarek Taylor. Part one was posted to ATXC on October 14, 1996. "Lost" is the tale of how Krycek kidnaps Scully and she falls in love with him, partly because she is suffering from Stockholm Syndrome.

A month later in November, 1996, Krycek and Scully had their first (only?) substantial scene together in the episode "Tunguska."

Pioneers

There were only five SKipper stories posted in all of 1997. The first, Lacuna," was posted by Tara Thorne in February. Three very different stories followed, written by Rachel Lee Arlington. The original posting dates of these stories to ATXC is obscured. "Rat Trap," a story where Scully rapes Krycek was posted in April and makes mention of "Wrestling with the Devil," in which Scully and Krycek have sex in Mulder's bed, which was not archived at gossamer until its second posting in February of 1998. "Trick or Treat," the Tunguska missing-scene sequel to "Wrestling with the Devil" appeared in June, 1997.

"The Secret Life of Dana Scully" appeared in July of 1997. The author states in her introduction that "Lost" and its author influenced her to write the romance. "Wheels of Iscariot," which is conspiracy driven, was posted in November of 1997, written by Emilie Renee Karr. The last SKipper story of 1997 was "Surprise," a SKipper twist on a scene in the fifth season opener.

The Boom

Thirty five SKipper stories were written and posted in 1998, with a boom beginning in June of that year. Only two stories were written before June. "Imbroglio," Jessica Zyvarek Taylor's follow up to "Lost" was a genuine romance. This time Scully did not need to suffer Stockholm Syndrome to fall in love with Krycek. The second was a short story called "Prosthetic" by Hayley McBey, which began the boom in Scully/Krycek stories. It was posted on May 26, 1998.

FIRST WEBSITE

In between these two stories, the SKipper Haven opened as the first Scully/Krycek website in April of 1998.

"Selling Your Soul" by Kate Dyer opened June of 1998, followed later that month by two sequels. Also in June, Juliet Rose posted "Melting into One," a short story that finds Scully and Krycek together for reasons of novelty. As the author writes in her introduction, "Why not the usual Mulder & Scully. Well, there's your answer, one: Mulder & Scully romances are done all the time..."

FIRST THREESOME

June 1998 also saw the first story to feature Krycek, Scully *and* Mulder: "Three's a Charm," by Ocean Summers and Sage O'Neil.

Late 1998 saw many more stories and the establishment of several authors in the genre, including Samantha Lin [who began the Skipper Zone website] and Sarah Cuthbert [who posted 7 stories before the end of the year]. As Heather noted in the introduction to her filk, "Skip-Mas" : "there seems to be a sudden inexplicable "rise" in the postings of Skipper related fiction," following with the lyric:

"It's beginning to look alot like Skip-mas....
Everywhere you read,
Take a look at him, 5 foot 10
Screwing her once again,
Posting Krycek/Scully smut fic here we go...."

Explosion

SKipper fiction exploded in 1999, with seven to ten stories being posted every month.

FIRST 155 WORD

The popular 155 word genre expanded to SKipper fiction with "155 Words or The Shortest Scully/Krycek Romance," by RedThunder on January 31, followed two weeks later by 155 Words: The Shortest Krycek/Scully/Mulder Romance Ever"Shortest Krycek/Scully/Mulder Romance Ever!" by Erin M. Blair on February 9. Alanna picked up the genre in April with her lyrical tale "Jazz" in 157 words, and a series of 155 word Scully/Krycek stories was also written in April by CazQ. ["The Physics of Fascination" "The Physics of Desire" and "The Physics of Departure."]

THE FUTURE

Noteable humor author RhymePhile broke into SKipper fiction with her non-humorous, non-rhyming "Devil" series, in which Krycek invites Scully to run away with him. A darker series was begun by Rachel Anton [an established Scully/Krycek scribe, author of "My Way or the Highway" and co-author of "Cherry Ripe"] called "World Without End." Only Book one of this futuristic, colonization-driven story has been posted so far.

Another highlight for the future is Mare's Wicked Game. This tale, which sees Scully make a steamy deal with Krycek, was the first Scully/Krycek story to be concieved, since Mare began writing the tale in July of 1996. The story remains a Work in Progress and with the length of the first six chapters already a hefty 300K and more to follow, "Wicked Game" may become the longest SKipper story when completed.

PRESENT

On March 20, 2017, another post-colonization Krycek/Scully fic was started by Jessica Kurr, called "End of Time" (also the creator of "Gasoline", a shorter skipper fic written from 10/17/2016 to 02/11/2017). New chapters are still being added on fanfiction.net and AO3, and the novel length fic has reached a current length of 145K so far. Its latest update of chapter 22 was on August 27, 2018, and is getting closer to being completed.
