Rhapsody in Oil is a Buffy/Spike fic by Eurydice.
This story was posted on Eurydice's website Love's Last Glimpse. While that website is no longer available, the story remains online, at Fanfiction.net and Elysian Fields. Rhapsody in Oil is a rare example of a fanfiction that was not pulled to publish. Eurydice has spoken about how she extensively rewrote Rhapsody in Oil so she could publish an original fiction version of the fic.
Summary
From the FFN summary:
When a bored Slayer finds a mysterious painting, she finds herself sucked into an adventure that gives her more than she bargained for. Set S4 between Something Blue and Hush.
Reactions and Reviews
In this one, Buffy and Spike get sucked into a painting and are trapped in normal identities within, working at a less-than-reputable nightclub. Danger stalks them as the Scooby Gang tries to unravel the mystery of the painting, eventually pulling everyone inside for the climax. It's another of those incredibly unique Eurydice plots, and like all the others it's done exceptionally well. That, and the Spuffiness is nothing to sneeze at. ~_^
On Filing Off The Serial Numbers
In 2006, eurydice described the process of reworking Rhapsody in Oil for professional publication.
I finished my next book for Linden Bay, Two Lives in Waltz Time. I took the basic premise of Rhapsody in Oil and wrote a new story with new characters. No vampires, though there's lots of magic. Oh, and Gino is still around. :) But while I could use snippets from the first half of the story, all but one of the sex scenes are different, and the entire last half of the story is different, so it was pretty much like writing a new book.[2]
Gino was an original character in Rhapsody in Oil. Eurydice won the Outstanding Original Character Award at Round 1 of the Spuffy Awards for her depiction of Gino in this story.
