Raised Together is a trope where characters who may not have canonically known one another as children are depicted as being raised together in fanfiction. This trope can apply to works where two or more characters are raised together as siblings or works where the characters are childhood friends.
Raised Together can include everything from gen to explicit fics, as the trope can lead to Childhood Friends to Lovers trope.
There is controversy around this trope, when its employed to depict characters raised together as adoptive siblings and those characters later enter into a romantic or sexual relationship. These works are generally tagged as incest.
Fandom Specific Tropes
- Within Star Wars fandom, AUs where Luke and Leia were raised together are common.
- In Smallville fandom, AUs where Clark was adopted by a family other than the Kents appeared. In many of these works, Clark and Lex Luthor were raised together as adoptive siblings. In some works this led to Incest AUs.
