Pokémon (short for Pocket Monsters) are fictional creatures from the Pokémon franchise. There are over a thousand canonical species of Pokémon. Pokémon often resemble animals but may also resemble plants, inanimate objects, or even humanoids.

In the Pokémon world, humans keep Pokémon as pets or raise them to compete in Pokémon battles.

Fans may invent their own original Pokémon species; for example, original Eeveelutions are common. Canonical species are sometimes drawn as gijinka.

Pokémon are sometimes brought into other universes in fusion fanworks.

Popular Pokémon Species

  • Charmander: Charmander is the fire starter from the first generation of Pokémon. Charmander was a very popular pokémon back when the game and the anime were first launched in western countries. This was due to his design as a little cute dragon, which evolves into a bigger and more powerful looking one, with wings. Charizard, charmander final evolution back then, was featured in the box of the "Pokemon Red" game, contributing to the popularity of Charmander and its evolutions. Nowadays, and despite having released more than one thousand different pokémon already, Charmander is still a very popular pokémon. Old fans remember it with fondness while still being popular with newer generations of fans. Charmander still features in a lot of merchandising and promo material of the franchise.
  • Pikachu
  • Eevee
  • Steelix
  • Wooloo: After its reveal for Pokémon Sword and Shield, Wooloo was adopted as a wlw symbol, sometimes called "wooloowoo"
  • Sprigatito
