Pharma is a minor character in the Transformers franchise, only appearing in More Than Meets the Eye and Lost Light aside from cameo appearances. However, he is a fan favorite and the focus of many fanworks.

Popular Tropes & Fanon

  • Sassy Bastard Pharma: in-tune with his canon and fanon characterization, along with "jerk", "asshole", "bully" and "sleaze" Pharma, among basically any synonym of these that you can think of.
  • Hurt Pharma: common in angst works, with Tarn typically being the one doing the emotional, sometimes physical, hurting. Hurt/comfort works may have him contacting Ratchet, who then gives him intervention-like comfort.
  • Bigoted Pharma: Pharma hates the Decepticons, which some fans interpret as him being canonically bigoted against them. A lot of meta has been made aiming to prove this characterization as mostly fanon, however, or at least that he's as bigoted as the rest of the Autobots, many of which also hate the Decepticons. Related is the idea of Functionalist Pharma, which implies he judges other Transformers based on their alt. mode/what they can transform into, (analogous to him being a classist.)
  • Insane Pharma: a moniker given to him by some fans. Much like the idea of bigot Pharma, this is also the subject of ableism discussion meta. Some fix-it works, or works critical of how he's portrayed in canon, may be tagged with Sane Pharma.
  • Wing Kink: wing kink is popular, given that he can transform into a jet, though it's not often tagged as such. Many of the erogenous zones on his wings come from the popular Seeker Culture fanon, (originating from Starscream-adjacent works,) involving Cybertronian (Transformer) jet wings. Often used for emotional manipulation in Pharma/Tarn works.
  • Mentor Pharma (in Transformers Animated): although he is only a cameo in the The Complete AllSpark Almanac years after Animated ended, (which is a post-series encyclopedia made by the showrunners for fans,) this cross-canon counterpart of the character is the subject of many fanworks, especially ones exploring the dynamic he could have with Animated Ratchet as well as Animated First Aid, whom he is said to have taught, which is not canon in the IDW comics.
  • Pre-War Pharma: typically pre-canon works which explore his time in medical school.
  • Dom Top Pharma: more common than him being a submissive bottom.
  • Pharma has a Tank-frame Kink: completely fanon, though common in Pharma/Tarn works.
  • Pharma Lives: fix-it.
  • One common headcanon is that Pharma and Ratchet used to date.
