Penny Polendina is a character in the RWBY series.
Canon
Penny is the synthetic person capable of generating an Aura. She was created by her father Pietro Polendina with the aid of the Atlesian Military and James Ironwood. She was destroyed in the Vytal Festival Tournament during her fight with Pyrrha Nikos. However her core was recovered and she was rebuilt upon its return to Atlas.

Common Tropes and Fanon
- Fix-it: There were many works post-V3 ignoring Penny's death or resurrecting her. Her possible resurrection remained a popular fan theory until V7.
- Resurrection: Prior to V7, there were many different takes on Penny's possible resurrection, with speculation about how she might be different, or there might be a new but similar robot/android character. The fan theory that she could still be brought back to "life" because she is a robot was confirmed in V7.
- Maiden: It is a topic of interest among fans whether or not it is possible Penny to gain the power of the Maidens. She appears to be a girl, but is a robot, and the Aura which makes her human-like comes from her father.
- Autistic!Penny: The headcanon that Penny is autistic is somewhat common. In fanfic, she is more likely to be autistic in human AUs.
- Trans!Penny: Penny is sometimes headcanoned as a trans girl, based on her struggles to affirm that she is a "real girl" and not a robot. Like with autistic Penny headcanons, she is more likely to be depicted as trans in an AU where she is human.
