Even in the first episode of this arc we have the notion that Hydra’s control over the country allowed them to push the idea that no they totally are not nazis or have nothing to do with it. Which in a way is VERY similar what “modern” biggots of all kinds do - try to hide behind concern or behind “middle ground” or pretend that what they preach is somehow “different” from being a nazi. “No we just want rights for white people! that’s not Nazi!”, “No we just feel men and whites are treated unfairly! We are not being racist. Honest!” and the like. The show posits the danger of normalizing problematic behavior and where that leads. We see facts being twisted into “alternative facts”, Through clever ruses and plans, Framework version of HYDRA positioned themselves as “Saviors of the country” and the “good guys”, normalizing their behavior and gruesome methods.
And the parallels to our world do not stop there. We see some people being treated as “dangerous” due to what they are. We see rise in government brutality against civilians now that Nazis are running the country. We see children being taught to fear those different from them by using past tragedies as propaganda. We see Simmons being outraged at HYDRA twisting facts while disregarding logic or science(sounds familiar?). What’s more the second episode of this arc has Fitz(who is a Mengele-esque higher-up scientist at HYDRA in this reality) literally say “We will make this society great again” drawing an even more direct parallel between this dystopian authoritarian alternate reality and what is happening in our world.
Framework is an exaggerated version of our world. Our reality. Its a warning. A warning where the current path can take the world - a warning against bigots rising to power.Framework is a chilling vision of our own future. Its the AOS way to make commentary about Tangerine administration and current state of US.
