Nepotism is the act of granting an advantage, privilege, or position to relatives and friends in an occupation or field.[1]

Nepo babies are people who achieve success or fame thanks to the privileges available to them from the start of their careers through family connections and wealth. The term nepobaby is a portmanteau of "nepotism" and "baby".

Often though not always, many nepobabies are said to lack outstanding talent, and allegedly their fame is owed to industry plant status, instead of their own merits. However, nepobabies can also be people from privileged families yet are also considered talented and skilled in their own right. The term nepobaby is specifically used to criticize the entertainment industry for privileging the rich and connected.

Sometimes nepotism-related bias, or perceived bias, in fan works prompts fans to make transformative works addressing or correcting nepotism.
