Mpingo Press was a zine publisher run by Winston Howlett.
"Mpingo" is Swahili for "ebony." The editor wrote about the press' title: "Actually, I wanted to call it 'Ebony Prince Press,' but 'Ebony Prince' in Swahili is 'Mpingo Mwanawa Mfalme,' I figured we'd better keep things short and sweet." [1]
Mpingo Press produced:
- Probe, which encompassed Captain Uhura, The Goddess Uhura, and The Starwitch
- Spirit, a Christian Star Trek zine
- Fanzine, a fanzine on audio cassette
- Alkarin Warlord
- possibly Nu Ormenel Collected
- The Omega I Light Show: A three-projector slide and sound show giving various perspectives on the Star Trek TV series. There is visual poetry, comedy, and a short Star Trek adventure. Over 2000 slides, some originals. Shown at ClipperCon #1 in 1984.
