Mission fic is a genre of fan fic generally found in fandoms for sources that involve high percentages of action/adventure plots. They are the equivalent of casefic in procedural fandoms. In television fandoms, they often have the feel of an episode.
Many mission fic are gen, or the romantic relationship is backgrounded. However, some mission fic also serve as getting together fic; in these some tropes from casefic (pretend couple, undercover in a gay bar, and undercover as prostitutes) are common, as is hurt/comfort and character whump in the aftermath of the mission.
