Mattheo Riddle is a Fanon Character in the Harry Potter fandom. He originated from the Wattpad fanfic Possessive by yasmineamaro.
Original fanfic
Possessive was written by yasmineamaro and posted on Wattpad in late 2020. After going viral on TikTok in December of that year, the story was abruptly deleted from Wattpad in early 2021. The deletion was apparently due to the author having committed plagiarism.
The fanfic is predominantly an Enemies to Lovers story, focusing on an unnamed female protagonist (referred to as Y/N) and Draco Malfoy. Thirty chapters in, Mattheo Riddle is introduced, forming a Love Triangle in which the protagonist is torn between him and Draco. Mattheo is a Slytherin student as well as the son of Lord Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange. The author still intended for the pairing with Draco to be endgame, and as far as Possessive is concerned, Mattheo's eventual fate is being killed by Bellatrix, his own mother, during the Battle of Hogwarts. Nevertheless, many readers ended up preferring Mattheo to Draco.
Spread Beyond Possessive
Mattheo started appearing in other Wattpad fanfics in December of 2020, which is when Possessive originally went viral. Shortly after Possessive was deleted from Wattpad, he started appearing on Archive of Our Own as well.
His original Possessive backstory is not necessarily followed, and he may be depicted as Voldemort's brother rather than his son. Mattheo is portrayed as a typical bad boy and is usually paired with an original female character. He's often represented by images of Benjamin Wadsworth in his role as Marcus Lopez Arguello from the Syfy series Deadly Class.
