In Osomatsu-san

Karamatsu Matsuno is the second-born Matsuno sextuplet and associated with the colour blue. A fandom favourite, he is most often in canon used as comic relief and a scapegoat to his brothers' whims. He is often ignored by others because of his painful fashion and dialogue. This can lead fans to pity him and grow attached to his character.

Karamatsu has a huge ego and constantly boasts about himself, despite there being very little to brag about because of his NEET status. He believes he has fans and calls these fans 'Karamatsu Girls and Boys'. Often, he can be seen loitering about the town either reciting poetry about his 'shy sweethearts' or holding up a free hugs sign. He often speaks broken English.

Karamatsu has a very delusional perspective on himself and the world around him and is usually confused by other people's responses to his 'cool guy' persona. He is gullible, naive, genuine, easily swayed and secretly timid. Because of this, he can be coerced into doing odd jobs for his brothers, despite being just as lazy as them and not wanting to do them. Although, Karamatsu does typically want to help others and seems to get a high out of being useful to the people he loves.

He is artistically inclined, notably strumming on a guitar and reciting poetry he makes up on the spot. He is also a hopeless romantic and believes whole-heartedly in his charms. He uses his cool attitude as a way to feel confident, but can have moments of insecurity and uncertainty about himself and how he affects others. He tries hard to be a good role model for his younger brothers and be the voice of reason when the brothers argue, but often he fails at both of these. As the second eldest, Karamatsu will take over if Osomatsu isn't there or is falling short.

In Osomatsu-kun

Karamatsu and his brothers are all identical, which is used as a common gag in both the manga and the anime. His name is a type of larch tree, but is also a play on the Japanese word Karappo which means empty. This joke is based on the fact that Karamatsu isn't very bright.

At this point, Karamatsu's placement in the hierarchy of brothers was unknown. He also, like the rest of his brothers, didn't have any official colour to associate with. His partner and brother seen most with him was Todomatsu.

Fanon

In both Western and Japanese fandoms, Karamatsu is one of the most popular of the sextuplets, alongside Ichimatsu.

Common Headcanons

• His surface personality is a mask over either his ‘true’ self or as a coping mechanism for his generally poor treatment in canon.
• He uses liner to accentuate his eyebrows, hence why they appear thick.
• He is bisexual. This is because he believes he has fans of all genders and doesn't seem to mind this fact.
• All his painful outfits are made by him.

Shipping

As Karamatsu is well-liked within the fandom, he can be considered the fandom bicycle. In BLmatsu he is shipped with every one of his brothers, all of which have 100+ stories on ao3 each. Karamatsu is also shipped with Chibita, the sextuplets’ childhood rival (and sometimes friend in adulthood). Reader insert is also very popular with him. If a character exists, there's a strong chance Karamatsu has been shipped with them at least once.
