"I Prefer Girls" is a redraw art meme based off the cover of pulp paperback book, 'I Prefer Girls' by Jessie Dumont, published in 1963. The cover was one of many examples from the numerous lesbian or sapphic focused pulp paperbacks[1] (achillean focused books and covers of the same style also existed).
Discussions around the books had occurred in social media spaces before[2] , including a small trend of people completing an Autostraddle quiz to find out which book cover they were in 2021[3] [4], but 2024 seems to be the first time it was particularly popular within fannish spaces as a redraw meme[5].
